I'm looking for a VCDS dongle for my ALH's. I have 2 so will need at least 2 vins or reasonable enough price for me to buy more vins. Unlimited vin would be the cherry on top!

Thanks

an ALH M-TDI in a MK2, a 2000 Jetta, 2003 wagon
Old VCDS for the ALH MK4 are always unlimited.
KII or I think I had one called KEY that worked

Only one Mk. II left (whine) and, yet, another alh.
Can sometimes find KII's on facebook.
ALWAYS get a confirmation from the seller as to whether or not it actually works before paying for it. Keep the email to show paypal when the cable turns out to be damaged and does not work......as happened to me from one of these members here.

Are you sure? I will have to look this up, but I dont remember this being the case. I was almost sure you had to buy vins. Each cable came with 3 vins originally.

Legacy USB Interfaces which do not support CAN bus are unlimited, e.g. KEY-USB and KII-USB.
Was this always the case or did this go into effect in the last few years?

Always, those Interfaces haven't been sold new since 2016. Their customers would not be happy if vin limits were introduced retroactively ;)
Ok. That makes sense. I guess I have misunderstood this in the past.

All I need is a cable that will allow me to set pump timing after timing belts and change things in basic settings.

Right, the KII is a little newer than the KEY.
They seem to both work the same, the only difference I think I found was the Key worked on a windows 95 computer, maybe.
You can also use gemonomous? work and find the SKC and other stuff using CMD prompt.

I have an older KII-USB cable, unlimited vins on that one. If you need to borrow it for like a day, we can arrange for that.

I really appreciate the offer! I wouldn't mind doing that except for as much as I work with these car's I think it's just time for me to buy the actual thing. I have gotten by for almost a decade without one, but now with some of the things I am doing I think it would be a good idea for me to purchase one to have on hand at all times.

I'd say look for the KII-USB version then. It works with the MK4 tdi cars and a BUNCH of other VAG cars. It's definitely more affordable than pretty much all newer cables and has no VIN limits on it.

Ill keep an eye out till I find one. Currently have seen a couple for $180+ and at that point I may as well spend the extra and buy the $300 hex cable with 10 vins. More than I'll need anytime soon and will serve me well if I ever move to a cjaa.

Older Hex-Can usb cables are also unlimited. Bought one back around 2010. Still use the OG and have an extra as a backup.
Thanks! I've been keeping an eye on those too. I recently found one I want to buy, but I was hoping to find a kii for cheaper and use that for now.

I actually have 2 KII-USB's...

Could be persuaded to part with 1...

I know for sure the Kerma bought 1 was never registered.
(So technically, You should be able to reg for free support.)
I'd have to double check other cable,
but don't remember ever registering that 1 either.

HMU VIA PM if interested.
