Looking for a unicorn...

2000-2003
Jetta Wagon
Golf 2DR

manual would be nice, would consider an automatic if the condition is right as well.
BEW Wagon would be considered if the condition is right as well.

Looking for a clean one with good maintenance history and little to no rust.

My wagon was totaled earlier this year and now I am on the search for another one.

Located in Indiana,
Would probably ship one in, or come get it since work is slowing down right now.

Up to $7k cash in hand for the right one.

There's that super clean GL manual crank window IBW on Ebay somebody linked in this section.

If you are already at 10, why not 15!

I looked at it. Saw someone went to look at it and the dealer coated the underside and had fees on top of it. So it would be a $17k car after taxes. Ouch....

That was a just a review from someone about a different vehicle on the bedliner undercoating... but I hear you on the fees

Just picked up an '04 TDI Jetta GLS wagon for some friends. Couldn't justify the ALH prices. The BEW had many newer parts and was mechanically sound (and a PNW car - no rust). At about 1/2 the price of an ALH there's room to throw money at a cam and or injector work.

That said, I will be watching out for an ALH Golf (manual trans), though four door. Also for my friends. Sadly I'd just sold my Golf a couple weeks before the need arose: only car that I would have guaranteed to be sound (other than my wife's '03 Golf TDI).

Brian, yeah, for sure, everything is a trade-off. In my position I'm noting it based on the fact that I've never touched a BEW/PD engine and don't have specific tools for it (only for the ALH).

FWIW - I've never had an IP issue with an ALH: my car left me still running strong with 250k miles; the wife's car is at 240k miles and is perfect.

Anyway, prices on ALH are insane and I cannot recommend to anyone other than an enthusiast who is a DIYer.

1999-2000 models from Europe are starting to hit the 25 year mark and are relatively cheap. After shipping and import fees you’d be around 10k, maybe less.

Likely means just cut the drain tube ends at the door. Not sure there's any other "mod".

Not sure how northern in Canada you’d be willing to go- but if I had $7k USD - I would go for this BEW wagon.
I think the miles are like 139k
Manual tranny
Body looks minty too.

I really regret not keeping more money on hand - I’m only a couple hours away from Prince George.
It’s very remote for you in Indiana though.

Drool on while this thing lasts

I’m in the states. I don’t think I’d want the headache of trying to import
