I'd like a complete shift box with cables in good condition. Thanks in advance!
If it doesn't need to be from an '02 specifically (I don't see why it would), I have one from a '99 Jetta with 90k miles on it.I'd like a complete shift box with cables in good condition. Thanks in advance!
99 is the old style and won't work for the OPIf it doesn't need to be from an '02 specifically (I don't see why it would), I have one from a '99 Jetta with 90k miles on it.
Actually, I think it splits mid year 1999.99 is the old style and won't work for the OP
never seen a titled MY 99' with the newer style... it's likely some cars produced in 99' but considered y2k have the later box.Actually, I think it splits mid year 1999.
EDIT; i'm not referring to the different models produced in 99' i'm specifically referring to the 99 (99.5 if you prefer) mk4 which has the older 02A shifter) ...yeah, just like every car made... the build date for the next model year will have a manufacturing date starting the middle of the current year. But, equipment changes will generally follow the MODEL YEAR. As for the the 99' and 99.5 Jetta there are two possible shift boxes available (mk3/mk4) both are incorrect for your 2002 as the 99.5 mk4 still carried over the older 02A style shift mechanism which.makes it non-compatible and less desirable than the "newer" 02J style found in model year 2000 and newer. But be my guest, and buy a model year 99 (mk3) or 99.5 (old style) shifter for your 2002 and let us know how it works.Im not trying to be block headed, but you did get me curios so I checked into it. I looks like the break from Mk3 to Mk4 was mid '99 .

that's the later style, y2k and newer...what's the production date of the donor?Kind of curious now to know which I have, these are the ones I have off my '99 (available as full 90k mile manual swap)

I beg to differ. My 2002 is not like this and what Im looking for is not like this. I pretty sure this is y2k and earlier (older).that's the later style, y2k and newer...what's the production date of the donor?
your initial request was for a shift box and cables... any 2000-2006 mk4 five speed shift box and cables will fit your 2002... the ends are easily swappable to match your selectors ... and there is no "y2k and older" y2k was the newer 02J style... older 98,99 beetle, 99.5 jetta/golf is the older 02A style. Clear enough?I beg to differ. My 2002 is not like this and what Im looking for is not like this. I pretty sure this is y2k and earlier (older).
