Well, I was having some drivability issues that were getting steadily worse after the dealership replaced my TB. (See other thread http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=254938.)
Thanks for this forum and the advice and guidance in all the threads here. Based on my symptoms and the wisdom in other posts I tried unplugging my MAF sensor this weekend. I saw improvements driving around town…but didn’t realize how big of an improvement I was seeing.
I drove to work this morning with the MAF unplugged..and all I can say is WOW! I was going up a hill at 75mph in 5th gear and could feel I still had acceleration available to me. For the first time in weeks (months?) I haven’t had to cower over in the slow lane to get up a hill.
My lack of power had gotten to the point that I was dreading my commute. I absolutely *hate* being “that guy” who is in the way and slowing things down. It seemed like something was wrong, but I also suspected I had to tolerate a certain amount of this due to the fact that “it’s a diesel.”
Boy was I wrong! These TDI cars are great! I wonder if I’ll still be seeing the 53 mpg I was getting before I realized the potential of this engine?
Oh, and I’m still getting a timing reading of “90” using VAG-COM. I don’t know if that will change once I get the replacement MAF sensor in. I’ll also look for vacuum leaks and test the N75…but based on today’s drive I think those are reasonably good. Any idea if I can retard my timing back down from 90 into the “band?”
Thanks for the great source of information,
Jeff
