I think Subaru has had a real hard time breaking out of the mind set of offering utilitarian vechilces that are great on going about anywhere and easy to clean out when you get back. our first new car was an 82 subie wagon with fwd. You could get them without awd at that time. When I look at a new one today, I really don't see that much difference improvement in the interior.
I have had Subarus since the same time, about 15 of them. I love the fact that the interiors haven't changed to the point where I can reach for something and it right where i expect it to be. Subie abandoned FWD in the early 90's, it was the wisest thing they did, at the time AWD was a $750 option and was better for their image. The cut down on inventory and made things simpler for ordering, at the time there were 37 Legacy variations too. Being selfish though I owuld like to see the Legacy wagon return.

Need a 5th choice - I would not considerbuying a gasser from *ANYONE* . . . another TDI, no problem (or other diesel) . . . no issue with VW whatsoever - this is nothing more than EPA/CARB burocratic poo flinging at it's finest . . .
Ditto. Unfortunately, it seems only a 3 series fits my needs. Not really pleased with BMW's reliability over the past few years.

Does any other companies have something similar to vag-com? I bought the VW is because of vagcom. I can make my blinkers behave normal. Turn off auto door locks. not have a seat belt dinger. enable DRL on/off option on my MFD. not have a delayed 4th wipe smear everything when i use washerflued. It's these little things that make the virgo in me nuts with any car after 2010.

I'm not even sure how to search for this...... but does anyone know of simular products for other cars? I'm considering going to an outback as the new sportwagen is just too low with too small of tank.

Volvo has VADAS. Along the same lines.

Never again for me because of the lack of reliability and the repair costs associated with both gas and diesel models.

Let's skip the guru mechanic argument. Major repair/replacements are expensive regardless of where the work is done. And these cars fail frequently. A guru does save you time, money, and hassle by not guessing and throwing parts at a problem, however.

I had decided buyback, but the latest rumor of a Gen 1 fix has me on the fence. I can get a few more years out of the TDI if I can continue to get it registered....

I'm going to go from 3 cars to two. Likely a BEV Plug in hybrid or just a hybrid. Then, just rent nicer cars on vacation to fulfill 'the need.'

My Touareg replacement was going to be a Porsche Macan, but after seeing how VW has handled this situation, I'm about ready to tell them to go eff themselves. I've owned several VW's and an Audi Q5, but I'm hesitant to ever give VWAG another dime.

Toyota has Techstream, which is available to consumers for a fee. bhtooefr bought a 2016 Prius and demonstrated Techstream for me. I thing it's a very powerful and well-designed application. https://techinfo.toyota.com/techInfoPortal/appmanager/t3/ti?_pageLabel=ti_tis_ts_reprog&_nfpb=true

Subaru appears to have one, as well, but I'm not familiar with it. http://techinfo.subaru.com/static/specialTool.html

YOU SIR ARE A CHAMP.
Normally when I ask questions (like at subaru) people just say things like "why would you want that, everything is perfect as it is, big brother is watching you, how dare you think differently than the rest of us"

If anyone else knows of vag-com like software that allows you to change "user convenience settings" please keep them coming.

Just now...driving around in a <7 year old navy blue car with vinyl seats and A/C that takes 10 minutes to kick-on...when it's 85º with matching %age humidity (plus a busted sunroof).... My interest in a replacement VW of any sort is waning.
