Does anyone know of a "good" video or written step by step? Last night's commute convinced me I need fog lights and as you know? there is a place for them on this car. I've never wired automotive, but recently rewired house...hoping it's pretty straight forward

I would just add that the integrated fog lights in the OE housings are more like "driving" lights. For similar effort, you can add OEM-style fog lights to the lower outer grills (or where you desire) and wire them to your headlight switch, operating in tandem or instead of the additional lights in the housings. Lower fog lights help notably compared to the OE lights- I have both, and in foggy conditions, the lower lights are the useful ones. If your headlight switch already has a fog position, you won't need much more than the wiring bits and some hardware/mounting effort.

The Hella integrated fog light kits for the Mk4 Jetta are rare to find nowadays, but you can recreate them without much effort. Or do what Lito did and use HIDs down low instead of the H3 bulbs. Also, if you drive in lots of low-visibility conditions, a rear fog is also an easy addition.

Don't let these threads deter you, there is more information than needed:

I'm working on figuring out how to set up my own fog lights too. I have the oem ones for a Bora that I am planning to install and use either HID or LED bulbs in them and to just use them in the factory locations in the bumper since I'm using a FMIC.

You have OEM Bora headlights with fog lights, or OEM bumper grill fog lights? Hella does make a HID kit using the same Hella micro DE style housings, but they are wicked pricey. Lito took his Hella DE housings and inserted HIDs, using them in the lower outer grills. One issue I've seen before with HIDs inserted in the original housing is that the plastic fails- not sure if this due to the heat. Have you seen Krash's thread on building lights? https://forums.tdiclub.com/index.php?threads/v2-0-diy-bi-xenon-projector-retrofit-mkiv-golf.498130/

I originally added driving lights into the lower grill sections (you can buy cheap ones with lights in them). Euroswitch triggering a relay.
They aren't ideal in front of the intercooler. Later I had to remove them with the FMIC install. I did a set of reproduction e-code (depo brand) and moved that trigger to feed the integrated driving light. They were about useless. Mini HIDs helped but still weren't great. Full HID conversion later with an expensive, but cheaply built set sold by a prior vendor here. Required lots of modifications to make them work correctly. This was all pre-LEDs taking over.

The Hella micro DE kit is similar, but with the lights on the outer portion. A dremmel can increase airflow if needed. The light output of the original DEs is (opinion) actually pretty good in most conditions, but those expected that it will look like a row of rally lights are usually disappointed.

I have ones like these. Not from that site, but they look like this. I can post pics of mine if anyone needs it for part numbers or reference. They have the part numbers on them and such. They seem to be ceramic housings sitting inside plastic grilles. My plan is to run those in the factory locations in the lower part of the front bumper. Some of the FMIC piping is in the way, so I needed to trim the plastic a little. I want to run either 3000K HID or LED lighting to get the correct color purely for function, but also get a good amount of lumens out of them.

Ok- those look a lot like the Hella copies that Lito had. He tried several eBay sellers, and one had really high quality copies with good durable plastics and the same /similar light housing that Hella used. Judging by the hardware and wiring, they may have been unbranded Hellas from other markets. Unfortunately, that eBay seller soon changed over to the cheap version, usually seen with a chrome ring around the light. Here's his F/S ad, with good pics of the lights and housings:

If those are the red/maroon colored ones, those were a replica of the Hella Micro DE kit. They were a good approximation of the Hellas, i.e. metal housings and glass lenses, especially when compared to most of the others you see via ECS et. al. which are plastic and garbage.

Unfortunately, even these "replicas" are impossible to find on eBay anymore. For a while, I believe they were being sold in Latvia or maybe the Czech Republic, but I haven't been able to find that listing anymore.

I was able to buy a pretty rough set from a user here on the forums. I decided to re-use the replica bumper inserts but buy brand new Micro DE's which are still sold today with almost no changes from 2004 when I think that kit was first released.

Unfortunately, those bumper inserts, even though they were replicas, were stick thicker and heavier duty that most of the most of the ones you see today. You'd have to heavily modify the mounting tabs for the lights on some of the cheaper ones so that the Micro DE's or the maroon replicas would fit in them.

I spent a lot of time looking into this for my car a couple of years ago. I found a Golf Hella set on eBay (if anyone want to buyit, DM ;), but I could never find the Jetta set after tons of searching.

This was my final result using repaired/refinished replica housings and brand new Micro DE lights. And, here are also some photos of the replicas side by side and the problem mounting tabs on cheaper bumper housings:

There is another option that I just remembered. I used it before I started getting super OCD/OEM with this specific Jetta.

One of my first projects was to buy the ECS fog kit mentioned earlier in this thread. However, instead of using the lights that came with the kit, I used Morimoto universal fog lights, which almost perfectly fit in the same mounting slots as the lights that came with the kit. These lights worked with the wiring, relay, etc. that come with the ECS kit though the connection at the lights needed to be spliced together. The screw holes you see in the photos are part of a plastic mounting bracket that is easily removed: https://www.morimotohid.com/morimoto-70mm-universal-xb-led-fog-lights?quantity=1
