Winter Rims?

2011 Jetta TDI Highline
I recently took possession of a 2011 Jetta TDI Highline. It came with stock 225 45 17 summer tires.
I am told that I can drop down to a 195 65 15 winter tire.
Does anyone know the specs on what size rim I can use with the smaller tire. I have 15" rims from a 08 Mazda 3 and was wondering if I could use these.
Also, would rims from an older Jetta (04-07) fit the new 2011?
Anybody have any suggestions on what winter kit to run would be appreciated.
Thanks

I flip the same size of rims/tires as you have described above. However, my car is a MK4 - so I am not sure of brake sizing on the 2011s. I do believe the bolt pattern went from 5x100 to 5x112 in 2005.5+, so the earlier rims will not work.

Yeah, as Zedbra said, 2005.5 (mkv) moved from 5x100 ro 5x112 bolt pattern. Also, I'm 99% sure the Mazda3 uses a 5x114.3 bolt pattern so those probably won't work. If the tires are 195/65R15 those would work if you put them on the right wheels.

Hi, I have a 2011 GOLF TDI DSG with the same size tires as your Jetta.
My car (US) came with a full size 195/65-15 spare steel wheel and tire.
I belive you need wheels that are bolt pattern 5x110 with a 45 mm +/- offset. I am using some aftermarket alloy wheels from a 2004 Passat with 195/65-15 Blizzak WS60 snow tires.

Mazda 3 rims WILL not fit.
04-07 VW wheels should fit as long as its 5X112's.

I looked at my spare and its 15"s so you can fit 15's i there for sure. I'm running 16"s from my 06 and they MUST fit or else i'm screwed :D

Get a set of 16" Biolines. They're easily available and can be found for reasonable cash, especially on Vortex.

I ran 205-55-16 General Altimax snow's on my '09 last winter and they performed very well. I'll be using them on my '10 this winter.

How concerned should I be regarding the offset?
I found a set of alloys with a 45mm offset but I'm told the Jetta calls for a 48mm offset.

The Passat had a 5x112 bolt pattern, thats why they work on your 2011 as well as the passat.

i like my set up, 215/55/16's on Passat wheels. They look lot better, they fill the gap much better i think. (i know for winter you should go narrower but rims+tires were only $325)

i'll try to post some pictures soon. So i wonder what i have to use for summer set up now. Car has 225/45/17's, i wonder 235/45/17's would look better?

my 205/55/R16s are Gislaved NordFrost 5s from my wife's 2004 Passat Wagon. I am wondering what TPMS is all about and whether these snows/rims are TPMS compatible?
They probably did not have TPMS, if you have a Canadian VW TDI then most likely your ride does not have TPMS. I had 06, 10 and 11 VW's Jetta and Golf's none of them have TMPS.

ok if TPMS is not a feature of the Canadian 2011 Jetta TDI, then forget I mentioned it. I will be putting these babies on my 2011 Jetta TDI Highline when it arrives at Orillia VW end of November. This will be part of my PDI.

I was just uncertain about TPMS in my upcoming vehicle and whether a light will come on in my dash if I didnt put on TPMS compatible tires, etc.

Yeah no more TPMS for 2011 US cars either, now they use ABS sensors to determine flat tires. Its a cool future and no need to buy or replace TPMS sensors for your car anymore.

Congrats on the purchase of your TDI. I have the same.

I chose white on tan, 6sp manual - not a typical order so custom delivered for me. I have never driven standard before so I am a little scared. However my cousin has a 5sp 2006 model so I can test drive it before delivery.

The gear up/down indicators should help me out, especially going from a 4sp auto to 6sp manual.

great! Learn to drive on a 6speed. So many times i found myself driving in 5th gear and not 6th. This is the first 6spd car i have even owned. The last 3455555cars were all manuals :)

I ended up going with a set of General Altimax Artic 205 55 16. I also picked up a sweet deal on a set of 16" VW alloy rims last night. DOn't have them mounted or installed yet but I will try and post a pic when I do.

Any tips on posting pics?

Thanks

Yes im with mo just learn on the 6spd, these diesel clutches are hard to wreck so no worries. Ive had countless times already where i forget its a 6spd as well lol. also im not sure if you put your plates on or not but check to make sure they dont screw the plate screws into the paint.

15" winters on 2011 Trrendline?

My 2006 (2007) Jetta is offlease in February. The new lease pricing on Loaded Trendlines is a no brainer, but they come with 17" wheels/

My 06 has 16" wheels and for winter, I have special VW issued 15"wheels.
I just mounted a fresh set of General Tire Arctimax 195/65R15.

I wonder if those wheels will fit the 2011 Trendline?

Hate to have to get new wheels and tires. I just got the tires for $300CAD shipped from JCWhitney, Crappy Tire wants over $500 for the identical tires.

My dealer had Biolines for $98/rim. I was tempted to pick up a set.

I decided however to use my stock Biolines as winter rims because they have a little curb rash and buy something else for my summer tires.
