Will a winter front damage my car?

I installed foam pipe insulation on all the grille vents on my mk6 and it heats up wonderfully on the highway and in the city. I took it to VW to get the CEL diagnosed as a #2 bad glow plug and the tech said to remove all the foam parts on the bottom grille since it may damage the intercooler by getting not enough air flow and get too warm. Is this true? My coolant temps aren't even close to getting too hot(around 90-95c) and the temps I plan to have this DIY winterfront on until the spring when temps exceed +5c. I took one of the grille blockers out on the bottom and it made a huge difference so I put it back on. Any advice?

It can only cause damage if installed when the weather is too warm.

Given your location (Alberta, Canada). Too warm won't be an issue during the winter.

Alright thanks guys! I needed some assurance since I didn't think anything bad would happen. I'll keep it on until spring when temps go above freezing.
