Hi Guys,

Just curious for those of you who have modified your 1.9 what BHP/torque are you running and what modifications have you done to get to this power figure? Really interested to hear what stuff people have done as i will be doing some mods to mine in the near future.

Thanks

What engine are you planning to mod? This is the MK4 section, which covers both VE and PD 1.9 TDIs - very different beasts when it comes to performance modifications.

PD 1.9 TDI as I'm in the UK, mine's a MK4 Golf.

There are just too many to list....
I'm running a dual-mode Jensen tube, with an oversized recalcination valve feeding an arctic package fuel flow duplexer. That, along with the charge air turbulator I'm easily making an extra 20 feet pounds of ham.

I thought it came from the factory with that…with the exception of the ham of course.

I’m running a couple stove pipe screw on exhaust tips and blacked out tail lights!
aww, man you get those +3hp smoked out tail lights? I wanted to put some dark tail lights on but MN is lame and doesn't allow cool +3 HP mods like that because you might outrun the law. Has to be 10+hp mods to be legal.

If they are completely black - then you can factor in the “can’t catch what you can’t see” hp

I have a Stage3 chip with upgraded .205 injectors and an 11mm pump. I have heard numbers like going from 90hp/150lbft -> 130hp/225lbft. Never done a dyno though.

OP has got BEW?
I have deleted the EGR / ASV and vac ball - swapped intake manifold for PD150 - changed my turbo for a 1856v - cat and muffler delete with a 2.5” resonated straight exhaust.
I haven’t done injectors because unlike the ALH - the BEW injectors are, from my skill set, impossible to swap nozzles on.
Most of my upgrades were done while trouble shooting a perpetual limp-mode - so I don’t have good comparison charting - but I can tell you it pulls like a choo choo train and sounds like a beefy tractor !
I’m really happy with it

Yeah- take it easy man - sometimes the jokes land - and sometimes they don’t - but definitely don’t take it personally.
This is an awesome forum with tons of opinions - not all are going to line up with mine or yours. I like the ethos of hot rod culture - sounds like you are headed in that direction.
Keep asking questions - take what you need and leave the rest-
I wasn’t intending to be rude about my own bolt on aesthetic mod comment.

I think part of it may have come from the fact that after P2B asked what engine you are running and you didn't ever give anyone a response. Because of this they resorted to providing entertainment for all of us. All you provided for information is what I quoted above and that doesn't help anyone much. They need specific engine codes so they can give you the information you need. Everyone here wants to help, but they can only help if you can give the needed info on what your car is.

The funny thing is, while we only got ONE engine in the A4 Golf that would fit the "1.9L PD", the UK probably got three. Yet here we (in North America) are trying to get the rest of the info out of him. Ironic. Shoot, if I could have a PD150 GTD, I'd be happier that a pig in snot.

The other ironic thing is, one of the biggest, best, most well known TDI tuner on the planet, Darkside Developments, is quite literally in his back yard. Imagine being able to actually GO TO those guys with your car??? :D

I haven't put it together yet, car was sitting for a few years, bought it as a parts car but now decided to make it a daily driver, needs a whole bunch of basics... But power mods will be gt1856v "Gen Snake" compressor and 1043+50 both from powertdi, upgraded smic and my own tune. Should be fun to dial in 😄 have a rough draft of it running in another BEW, with gtd1756vrk. ultimately i'll put in a GTD but i really just need one of my project cars running and can't deal with the downpipe mods, plus it still has an automatic 09a trans (with broken reverse)... next summer i'll probably put in an 02S
