Well, it depends on your side of the fence regarding Miles/kms.

I just happen to live on the km side of the border. So I guess the question for those who have an '05 or '06 TDI with 400,000 km.(or more)

Well, my second TDI now has rolled over 500,000 kms.

But , because it is a 'new to me' vehicle, I have not discovered all of its quirks.

Considering it is a 2005 BEW Engine PD Wagon with an Auto tranny, I am kind of fortunate that it is still running (after all , it is over 15 years old with Ontario and Quebec highway miles.)

it still is getting 7.0 to 7.5 L/100km fuel consumption, with this going up in the city driving.

Have yet to figure out how to make the reminder chime for the headlights work with the door handle micro switch not working.

But with Regular Unleaded Gasoline hovering around $1.20, and with lower fuel performance from gasoline powered vehicles, I will be extremely disappointed when the whole TDI population begins to deminish due to attrition.

I wonder if a TDI crate engine could be installed in a Tesla frame? I know the exhaust pipe would be a tell-tale, but still looking at the idea of a tag-along trailer for extended range traveling. The car would last 30 years, and the batteries could be swapped out every 10 years. Stanley Ovshinsky left us too soon.

300K with the DSG transmission. No issues except A/C and time to replace a sensor in the steering wheel.

340,000 miles. About to install timing belt #5 and camshaft #3. Replaced first cam at 80,000 miles, got 260,000 out of it's idParts replacement. Another idParts cam will be taking it's place. I'll finally need a transmission (manual) here in about 10,000 miles or so.

Those 340,000 miles have been: towing across Texas and Oklahoma, 10+ hour at a time highway runs, a whole lot of idling (travel for work / work out of car on-location), a lifetime in broiling heat, also spent a couple months sleeping in it during some hard times almost ten years ago. The only unforseen repairs have been due to hitting wildlife on Texas roads, a drunk driver that hit me five years ago, and a stripped clutch disk last year. That stripped disk was the only time this car has ever failed to get me to my destination due to malfunction. Everything else has been routine wear.

Highly recommended, would buy again :D

We just got back from a 4 day 1300 mile trip with the Jetta . I have 4 other, newer cars, with less combined miles on the lot of them than the Jetta, but the Jetta is the trip car.

I had 277K on mine when it had a castrophic failure. Replaced the cam once, and i think it lost compression when it failed. I didnt bother diagnosing it, as it was either going to need a new head or a new engine, and the cost of the engine and labor to replace woudln't have been worth it. It was also starting to have other issues, such as phantom current draw, (possibly door locks), a falling headliner etc. I ended up selling it to someone that wanted to a shell to put a new motor into.

I'm not there yet, but I just recently passed 172k... :)
Nice! Me too. I’m the original owner. Clutch failed on me at 155k in 2018. Timing replaced 1x in 2012 at 106k miles.
Do you mind me asking when you replaced your timing belt? Wondering if I should consider doing that sooner than later or if I should be ok.

2006 Jetta BRM 5 speed 271K. Replaced cam 5k ago. Have hesitation first and second gear at 1500-2000 rpm, more so when engine cold. Get large puff of smoke out exhaust then its fine. Anyone have similar problem? Torsion value at 0, no boost leaks, no codes. Sorry if this is off topic I'm just frustrated with this problem.

Like title say. I want see high miles jetta tdi. I saw one for sale that posted on this forum with 511,000 miles on 06 tdi jetta.

Thanks.
341,000 miles all original, But cam was replaced at 266, and had Malone Stage 3 installed a 325, (I like so MUCH!!!) so clutch is getting a little weak.
Have a Stage 2 Clutch pac to install.

I just passed 301,000 on my 2005 Jetta wagon. BEW. Original cam, but got a new turbo last year. I had to replace the rear brakes at only 270,000 miles but the front brakes are still good for another 200,000. I change the oil every 5,000 miles and use Mobil 1 TDT. Other than the Model A, it is our only car with a manual transmission, so prefer to drive it.

We passed 200K miles a while back. Owned since new with less than 10 miles IRRC.

This has been our GO TO vehicle for years and I kind of didn't give it the care it needed the past several years.

The "Jetta of Justice" is the car we use now if we are going somewhere that we don't care too much if it gets door dinged or in really bad snow situations and we wont take out the truck. With Snow tires, this thing just keeps on truckin' !

Paint is still good, engine good, I have replaced a window door regulator and just replaced a wheel bearing that was borderline DESTROYED...but this car I cannot say enough good things about!

Now that Diesel is cheaper than premium gas or for that matter regular unleaded we have decided to use it more often.

I just replaced the head unit with and RCD330 and now we have Apple Carplay/Android Auto. We are keeping it till it literally dies on us...but I think she has 200K miles on her.....goal is to have it keep running until I die....LOL.

I have 255K miles on my 2006 JETTA TDI. I purchased it used 10 years ago with 47K miles as a commuter car. The cam was replaced in 2015 at 187K, but unfortunately my mechanic reports that it now needs another one. I live in the north east and rust is starting to come through in several areas, so I don't think it is worth spending the ~$2500 to replace the cam again. I no longer work and don't need a commuter car, but it has been great using it around town to run errands.

I also had to replace the 5-speed manual transmission around 2013. Something happened with one of the outer shaft bearings and it trashed the transmission case. It took them a while to find a used one...."cus all you guys are trying to get 300K out of these cars". That bill was around $2500.

No regrets with my purchase. I drove it hard for 10 years and it did what I asked it to do.

RIP

5-6. It’s pretty easy. Watch videos and get the tools. Keep the bolts loose on the cam gear until you get the belt on should be in the middle of the bolt “notch” when the belt is tight. You will need a scan tool to check the torsion value when you’re done.

Just turned 400K.
Purchased in 2010 with 150K, replaced cam, lifters, belt, bearings, water pump, and installed new clutch and transmission at that time.
Since then,
Zip tie mod - Feel the turbo is original
Koni Shocks
6 Sets of tires
3 timing belts, bearings, water pump replacements
2 clutches - One when replacing trans with a 6sp trans, 2nd clutch when RMS caused leak that wetted down the clutch
Headliner
Door harness
Several door locks
Glow plugs and harness replaced
Front brakes - pads and rotors
Rear brakes - pads and rotors twice

320,000 miles
Cam done at 180,000miles
About to put on the 5th timing belt set
Front and rear shocks/struts/springs
EGR Cooler
Rear brake lines and calipers and ebrake cables
2 clutch kits
2 rear main seals
3 sets of glow plugs
2 batteries
2 sets of front brakes/3 rear
Front and rear sway bar bushings
Rear Tie Rods and bushings
Rear Drag Link bushings
1 oil gasket kit(oil pan reseal, valve cover gasket, tandem pump)
1 radiator
1 alternator
1 climate control switch assembly and 1 driver seat(left idling with heated seat on '3' and came back to find smoke and back of driver seat nearly on fire)
3 wheel bearings

may be more, but all things said, this car has had some issues, but for its age and mileage it's done phenominal. Considering a lot of parts are original like the turbo, I'm amazed. Especially because when it was new, we thought it was a lemon. We had so many electrical gremlins but VW fixed them all just before the warranty expired and after that it was a solid car, and still is to this day.

I've got almost 280,000 miles on my '06. I'm the original owner and she still runs strong! She'll see at least 500k before I retire her, quite possibly 1M.
