I recently acquired the VAG-COM software and cable, but have yet to get beyond "gee-whiz" and learn how to do useful stuff with it.

I'm in the northeastern Boston 'burbs, and once the @#$% dealer finishes fixing my ailing Jetta I'll be happy to go scan folks. (...if my girlfriend will let me!)

The place shown has everything from filter wrench to VAG tool and Vag adapters. Didn't know you needed so many specialized tools.

Although this is obviously one of the "major" VAG-Tool functions, there
hasn't been much call for it, and it is not implemented yet.


I've looked at what's necessary to do it, and it appears pretty
straightforward. However, I don't think it will make it into the new Beta
Release scheduled for the end of this month. This Beta will have
Data/Measuring Blocks, Basic Settings, and Adaptation. These functions
(which everyone has been clamoring for) were the "hump" in developing the
VAG-COM software. Interpreting the raw data that the ECU sends into
something meaningful to present to the user was a real nightmare.


Now that I'm over this "hump", I feel confident enough to publish a schedule

I think this is a conservative schedule, in other words, one I can easily
meet. I'm really hoping to have a Output Tests done in November, and a
non-Beta "1.0" release ready by the end of the year.


Plans for the 1.0 are that it will include data-logging (in a format you can
bring right into Excel so you can make your own graphs), but it probably
won't graph data in real-time or do the "00 Scan" / Auto Test.

It appears that nobody in my area has a VagCom... anybody interested in making a group purchase of one?

I just got Vag-Com to work with Andy Whittaker's adaptor cable.
I registered the software and so I now have all of the bells n whistles.

Andy's adaptor works well, and is a little cheaper for us Brits. It is however just a bare circuit board, and you have to make up the cables yourself (you can just buy the RS-232 one) and put in a box.

Andy actually sells an unpopulated PCB so that you can make the adaptor yourself. I have the ability but no the time anymore. The adaptor is optically isolated like Uwe's.

Of course by buying the adaptor seperately from the software you don't get the same level of support if thinks don't work.

Also got a laptop.
