Does anyone have any experience with any of the following?

http://www.harborfreight.com/can-obd-ii-professional-scan-tool-60694.html

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/we..._10188482-p?searchTerm=can+scanner#fragment-1

Or the 3160 which is the next model

http://www.amazon.com/MaxScan-VAG40...e=UTF8&qid=1370266697&sr=8-1&keywords=maxscan

I am wanting to get my own tool for diagnosing and clearing up issues with my 99.5' Golf TDI (ALH) and would like to get some opinions on accuracy/benefit of any of these or others that won't break the bank.

There is a much better place to put that question. It is in the "OBD Scanners" section. located here: http://forums.tdiclub.com/forumdisplay.php?f=21 This is really only for VCDS tool locations and who has them and are willing to lend a hand to other members. :)

Vag-com

I live in St. John's, Newfoundland. Is there anyone around here that has a VAG-COM? Otherwise, how much should I expect to pay if I were to buy one?

Noob to the forum. Not to my diesel.

Greetings,

I finally joined. I've been finding bits and pieces of info from this forum since I bought my 2004 Tdi BEW. Thank you all for being here. After ten years of owning my beloved "Sheba" and putting every single mile less 50 on her 203k miles, I want to finally make her the Dream Diesel I've always wanted. So this far I have added a short shift from an Audi TT and just received a from sway bar from Eibach and entry level performance front struts from Koni. I figured suspension was a good place to start. A front tie bar and a bushing refresh will be next. Down the road I want to max out the engine, but with baby steps. I seek guidance on what steps to take on the road to upgrading the engine. I have heard injectors and a chip is the best first move for a diesel instead of gasser logic (intake and exhaust). Thoughts and comments welcome.

I gather you are talking about a gas engine? On the Diesel engine the ECU doesn't need to be taught, at least in my experience, although there is a procedure you can use to make sure the ECU understands the full range...don't recall the exact steps but it involves leaving the key in the ON position and cycling the pedal thru the range. Google might track it down.

Yes its a gas engine 2003 Jetta GL 2.0 standard. I have done the DIY manual steps (didn't work) I was told without the reprogramming with a VAG-COM the pedal will not communicate with the throttle body to make it accelerate. I am getting codes P2138 & P2128 and have done everything except to use the VAG-COM.
