I installed winter tires a last week. The Hankooks have around 22,000 miles on them. They look OK but not much tread left for a tire that has 50% wear. I'll keep the Hankooks around until I decide what to get for summer tires in the spring.

Sidewalls look fine. Are you referring to the shoulders? Other than a bit of uneven wear they've held up just fine. I think I can probably make those last 'til 60k.TDI_SC: I trust you're checking both inner and outer sidewalls. I wouldn't trust the Hankooks as long as you have, but that's just me.
I just had my 60k service and I'm still on the Factory Hancocks... Lol, new tires for Christmas though.I'm at 49,500 miles and going. I will probably keep the Hankook's 'til they're, uhmn, well, cooked.
The wear was uneven but I attribute that to a lousy service department that gave me "free maintenance until 30,000 miles" and lied about rotating the tires. The rear tires' shoulders are pretty thin bu the front tires are fine.
They are noisy, I don't like them, but they're a good bit less noisy than the Pirelli P6's on my 2010 Wagon (non_TDI).
