Mach1,

I live on the North side of San Antonio about a mile or so from 281! How far up on 281 are you. We take my jeep up there quite a bit to get to the guadalupe river and canyon lake with the dogs!

At 4,100 miles on the odometer

I'm getting around 41-42 mpg using D2. Haven't bought fuel from the same place twice until yesterday. Am going to try to run Texaco Extreme Diesel for the next tank or two to make at least something a constant. That fuel source gave me the first > 40 MPG tank.

Driving is about 70% highway (interstate) and of late I have set the cruise on 70 indicated (which I know is a slower road speed).

Have a road trip to Atlanta coming up in a few weeks so will see what a higher proportion of highway can give me.

Best is in sig.

(Working a good one right now though...MFD is 52.4 average mpg with 430 miles at 1/2 tank. Take in account for the -13% should put me at 45-46mpg...my goal is to join the 700 club but I think I will miss it by a tad this tank.) Totally different driving habits is required!!!

I am at about 2500miles total; only the first tank was below 40mpg, with mixed city/highway driving. Other than that it yields consistant 41-42mpg. Currrently needle is at middle, with already 300+ miles 100% city.

Not yet on the Wag com, Soon, Some time take a drive out 281 and it will do wonders for your FE, cruise by the shop and say hello, drink a beer.

Mach1,

What package level do you have? Pk1, 2 or none...not that it matters but I have a VAG com and if you are interested sometime I could maybe bring it by and mess around with it! I have my windows roll down with the key fob and unlocking all doors with the touch of a button. I also made the MFA display the correct mileage by putting in the correction as well.

Deisha,

I thought for sure you guys would have my mileage topped! Hope all is well with you all!

Nope. Hubby's in RI right now and I just don't have a reason to see the inlaws right now. Whenever he's here, they think we should be down almost weekly  It wouldn't be that big of a deal, but it's too far for the MIL to travel up here to see the grandkids

And, since hubby is in RI, I haven't had the urge to take a RT with the two kiddos (they're 1 and 2.5.) Actually, I've had the urge, just haven't done it yet. Now that the plum tree is blooming, I'm starting to get itchy feet - time to get on the road again!

34586 since June-20-05, average 47 when it's not raining and 42 when it rains hard. The only thing I can attribute the mileage dropping when it rains hard is that I don't use the cruise.

Although the DSG has a 1 mpg higher EPA rating, it appears that the manual trannys are actually getting better highway mileage. How do the final gear ratios compare in the two transmissions?

I have a 2006 White 5spd Pkg 0 TDI and it has ~12000 miles on it now. I got it the day before labor day of 2005.

I average 45mpg (don't have mfs, have to use pen/paper method) with I'd guesstimate 25% city and 75% hwy driving. I drive 50 miles round trip each day, which will be cut in half at the end of the month when I start my new job.

During the past holidays, we drove it to Colorado and on one tank of fuel, I got 52mpg, and over the entire trip, the worst tank I got was 48mpg. I was driving 65-70mph all the time. I think the 52 was a fluke but the math didn't lie, *shrug*.

I still love the car and have yet to regret buying it. It's the first new car I've ever bought and the first foreign made car I've owned. I will say at the moment, I plan on driving it until the wheels fall off. It's a very solid car compared to the rickety POS domestics I've owned thus far (I admit I haven't owned any "nice" domestics though, hehe).

We are staying here but he has school out there. We couldn't justify selling the house when he was coming back in 6 months...so I'm here and he's there. Makes for some fun times. Esp. when LJ wakes up crying for his daddy :(

Gutt, I woud love to put the Wag com on the 2005.5 pkg 1, I have all the stuff and more then the 06 pkg 2..(that counts), If you want to get together I would make it worth your time..I would like to trim the EGR as well. Cal the MIF, roll dn windows, all the things you have done..Theres a couple other guys from the Austin area that would probably make the same offer as well. Do you do during the week on just on Saturdays?

Dee,

I know the feeling....sucks being away on both sides of the marriage!

Mach1....

I am going to be out of pocket for a bit....this Sat a buddy of mine is shipping out to the big sandbox in the middle east for a while so we are throwing him a going away...on monday I am getting eye surgery so that will put me out of the picture so to speak...LOL...for about a month or so.

I would be MORE than happy to haul up there and bring the puter/vagcom up there. I am just a newbie at it but I am sure we could figure it out!

I thought there was no VAG-COM control over EGR on the A5.

bought sept 1st 26000 miles worst tank 40.2 best 51.2

Worst tank was driving in 6" snow for 300 miles of tank.

best tank was setting cruise at 73 for most of the tank.

I drive 100 miles one way to work so my mileage is almost all highway.

Can't wait for summer fuel!!!! was warmer today and got 51.4 mpg one way to work.

I usually fill up at 580 miles but this week I filled at 630 summer I will get a 700 mile tank for sure...

Pen and Paper method for the life of the car - all 3447 miles at last fill-up. 2006 Jetta with DSG. 65-75% driving at 75-85mph (by the speedometer - I'd like to know how far off my speedometer really is), the remainder is city. Best tank 40.93, worst tank 36.59.
