What\'s with the thing you call \"bra\"?

Hello Fellow Member's !

I'm just curious to know why some of you use this "thing" that you call "bra" or "car bra", what ever?

It's covering the hood, I can see that, but why?

I have never ever seen anything like that before.....

thanks for the link Driv'n EZ....

SO... It's used to protect your car hood....
I guess..
The web site didn't quite explain why to buy CarBra. Well that's just bad business

A Car Bra is used to protect the finish on the car from nasty road hazards like flying stones and bugs etc. It's basically an easily removable protection that you'd use when going on a long road trip, or if you commute where there are construction vehicles sharing the same stretch of road as you're travelling regularly, or if you happen to like riding the bumper of the guy ahead of you. (not recommended)

Re: What\'s with the thing you call \"bra\"?

It's a truly ghastly expression, and quite inappropriate, to my mind. After all, it doesn't even cover the "headlamps"!
Some importers here started calling them "nose bras", which seems to be even more crass! ....A yet further degeneration of the meaning of the English language!

I use a bra on my car to prevent the headlights and grille from sagging with time. That way it will remain sexy and perky for years to come.

Richard P, what were these things called in the U.K. before crass importers began calling them "nose bras"?

TDI Dennis --very clever. I'm wondering, since my car hasn't had one, is there a training model I should use first?

Bra's are particularly useful to people who either put a lot of highway miles on their cars (Trucks and SUV's though a lot of stuff up into the air), or if you live on a road that is unpaved.

Richard P. In the name of preserving our most esteemed and cherished language, please offer an alternative name for this thing we call 'Bra.'

I personally don't have a problem with expanding the definition to include this product, but what the heck. What would YOU call it?

A nose shield?

Re: What\'s with the thing you call \"bra\"?

Will E-codes make it perkier, still?...

OK, someone explain this to us; both sides of The Pond (as well as the Other Pond) have cars and trucks. There are highways. There are rocks and debris on these highways. This crud invariably ends up on your hood, windshield, grill and who knows where else... How is it that the "Perky" is used on this side of The Pond and not much anywhere else? There've got to be AR people all over the place that care about the appearance of thier car(s), right?... Is it a Cultural Thang?

No manufacturers call them "bras" because the term "bra" as applied to a front end mask was a trademark of the original "Le Bra." Somebody still owns the rights to that trademark. "Nose make", "front end cover", "hood protecter"...these are commonly used terms.

It's kind of like everybody calling any adhesive bandage a "Band-aid."
