What's Up With The 17' GSW Torque Figure?

I just bought a 2017 GSW SE. Nice car ( got a great deal ) but the VW Website shows max torque output @ 199 lb-ft. from 1600 RPM. The owners manual that came with the car (MY 2017) shows 184 lb-ft @ 1500-4700 RPM. The discrepancy matters to me and seems like it could be an issue if the figure online is misleading. Anyone able to posit an explanation?

IIRC: the torque differential just may be linked (NPI) to transmission type...................

ez,

(who is becoming increasingly attracted to the GSW 1.8 TSI/5M - - -
especially when more and more users are reporting more and
more mid forty's fuelings....................)

ezshift5 is correct -- 199 LB/FT is for the automatic and 184 is for the manual. I'm not exactly sure why this was done, but I'm guessing that if an owner were to pop the clutch with the full 199 LB/FT on tap, it might be tough on tranny components.

Awesome. Thank you all for clearing that up. I was really trying to figure that out. Now I recall that the owners manual is written for the base model which would be the manual.

on the Canadian Brochure:

FWD models get 185 lb-ft at 1,600–4,200 rpm
AWD models get 199 lb-ft at 1,600–4,400 rpm

On the Canadian GSW web site, the 1.8 TSI engine simply says 170 HP without any torque figures indicated.
