What would you recommend VW add to future Jetta/Golf TDI's?

To the OP:
1) AWD - I wanted to buy a new Audi TDi, heck I was even reluctantly willing to pay the stupid premium for it, but then they stripped out the manual tranny and the AWD. *** is an Audi w/o the AWD??
2) Heated steering wheel - agree here w/ an earlier poster
3) A la carte ordering of options - agree 100% here w/ earlier posts
4) A Webasto diesel fired heater that you can set a timer for. Know you're coming back to the car after work in 8 or so hours?... set it to start 20 min before you start the car and you're good to go. Leave for work every day at the same time and park on the street? No problem! No need for plugs or extension cords.

1) eliminate the 9w2 option from the top-end TDI models. 9w3 should be standard, PERIOD
2) no more crappy chinese Hankook tires, thankyouverymuch
3) an owner's manual that is either proofread, or at least printed on non-glossy paper so it can be used as toilet paper
4) the 170hp TDI motor would be nice!
5) full power seats would be nice
6) a better foglight package
7) a GLI package for the JSW would be sweet.
Add a .pdf version of the owner's manual w/ a change log. It would be a lot easier to update and keep current. Put an office full of interns to work on keeping all of them updated. Have an online means of sending corrections directly to the people responsible for updating the manual.

So here comes the cost of adding the AWD to the NA TDI:
1. Haldex AWD itself - approx. $3K (per discussion with VW guys)
2. Development of Urea Injection for 2.0 4L TDI (current exhaust will not be able to meet the emission for AWD car, per discussion with VW guys) - ???
3. Federalizing that powertrain - ???

Stupid premium, huh?

this is a REALLY good idea.
In fact, take it a step futher: there's a hard drive in the friggin radio, give me a manual I can access and read right from the touchscreen (while parked) and then update when in for regualr service just like they do with the ECU software.

I have even better idea: add VCDS to RNS-510 :).

I wish to amend my list:

1. A 40% reduction in price. They're stupidly overpriced. A Golf for $22k? GFR!

2. A warranty.

I am surprised you did not add free life-time fuel supplies...

Great suggestions - but I would be happy with AWD and a full gauge cluster (separate gauges for oil temp, pressure, boost, volts, fuel, tach, and speedo) and fogs or driving lights.

Another thread reminded me - better seals around the body/windows, to cut down on wind noise. A separate dimmer for the radio/nav. Better quality carpets - they are just plain cheap - not even worthy of a Kia.

You can fix that easily:
1. Stop buying Chinese crap at Walmart and maybe the exchange rate will improve.
That won't help. The Chinese currency is tied to the US dollar, so the exchange rate does not vary.

I understand European models come with the paddles for the tiptronic transmission. That would be nice.

I am not talking about exchange rate between USD and CNY. I am talking about trade deficit.

I would recommend VW to make 3 TDI trim levels:
1. Stripped to the bone
2. Most bang for a buck per their calculation
3. All the options available in RoW, a'la carte

And mk6 JSW version of mk2 Golf Country :).
We all know that you would buy model #1 and then spend all your time and money adding back in all the options you did not get with the car :p;)

Already done. ;)

I would like to see a lesser trimmed car, available with the lesser output higher MPG engine (already done, but not available here).

I would also like to see an AWD option for those who want it. Again, already available, not here.
second that......................

A real base model that has no power accessories, like windows or door locks, for a real base model price -- under 15,000.

Because it's so unreasonable to expect a warranty on a new car nowadays?

If you buy a VW, you buy it knowing it has no real warranty.

There are just too many to list....
I'd gladly buy a new one without a warranty if they discounted the price. But that won't happen, the gov't won't allow it.

I'd rather have money in my pocket....I can use that. Never had to use a warranty.

To me expecting 40% price discount AND warranty at the same time is unreasonable :D . Especially when you have no warranty at full price :D :D :D

Fair points :p I'm with Brian on this one. BTW: there are several cars in the $15-$18K range with stability control and true bluetooth and other niceties WITH actual warranties.

Redesign center console to give an inch or two more room for driver's right leg (knee and upper shin).
You must have long legs (like me). I "re-designed" my own center console for that very reason. I'm not certain if/how the 2010 version differs from my 2009.

Have Fun!

I wish VW would ditch the Hangook tires....they are the worst stock tire on any new vehicle. Terrible and probably very unsafe. Really justifies having all of the air bags!!!!

a hybrid using the 4 cyl diesel. Should post about 75 mpg if they can get the start/stop issues worked out
No stupid hybrid is required to get 75 mpgUS , VW already builds 3 cyl TDI powered Polo BlueMotion TDI that has no trouble at all hitting that 75 mpgUS mark . In a real world drive BBC TopGEAR returned ~90+ mpgImp ~ 75 mpgUS in a drive from Switerland to the west coast of the UK on one tank .

6. Offer a list of options that can be picked independent of each other
7. Offer TDI engine and 6 speed manual for Tiguan
