What would make MPG go down?

When I first got my car (34k miles 2015 Passat TDI SEL) at 70mph it'd get 49mpg hand calculated without trying. I want to say around 70k miles it started to go downhill. I had a ton of emission warranty work (new dpf, new hpfp) and it went back up to normal. Around 120k it started to go down again and I want to say around 70mph the max I'd get is around 45mpg. At 140k miles I went with Malone stage 2 dpf tune and it was about the same, maybe a tad bit worse. At 170k miles I lost all emissions and mpg's stayed exactly the same (Malone stage 2 offroad tune). At 190k miles turbo blew and I went with an Xman GTD1456vz turbo. MPG's are pretty much the same.

I will say my suspension absolutely sucks. I replace shocks and struts, but never did the springs. I need to replace those, along with a few other parts. I know when I back up and turn I hear a popping noise, so maybe ball joints? Either way I heard my suspension wouldn't make my mpg's drop that much, if any at all. I know the bigger turbo won't help my mpg's, but my mpg has been pretty consistent since 120k miles (225k now). I'm just wondering what would make my mpg's drop. I've pretty much used the same times and not comparing winter fuel to summer fuel. I know that affects it, but that's not my issue. I used to regularly see 700 mile tanks, but now I'm lucky to get 600. I did see 800 mile tanks a few times without really tryin, but I'll never see those again, much less try for 900 again (912 my record around 60k miles).

Dragging brake or worn wheel bearings....see if any of them are warmer than the others after a drive ..
Similarly tire choices make a difference, both rolling resistance and diameter as they wear....
Some items will get less efficient over time...fuel injectors wear... another rabbit hole that likely isn't worth dealing with if the car is running well.
There are several mega threads on mpg and the things that effect it...

One tip...with gasoline cars it's always said NEVER TUNE when things are running at their best, or you will forever mask the reason it wasn't running well...
You mpg was already dropping when you got your tune? Good luck.

I second the dragging brake theory. Is there any play in the parking brake lever when it is first applied? Check each parking brake lever at the rear calipers and see if they are fully retracting. If you have a non-contact thermometer shoot each rotor after a drive, they should be the same side to side. Look closely at the rims for extra brake dust. For whatever reason my right rear caliper tends to drag every couple of years.

The thing is my mpg was going down with the car stock, and even after they changed the hpfp and dpf it went down not long after. I got the car with 34k miles and the day I bought it the car always pulled to the right/left. I honestly can't remember which way atm, lol. I just assumed it needed an alignment, so I bought it and got one done. The alignment never fixed my issue, so I assumed it was something with the suspension. The car came from SC (I'm in FL) and I assume they drove it rough. From around 50k miles onward when I back up and turned left I would hear a pop. Over time I started to hear it from the right side.

Again, I changed the shocks/struts and the car felt better, but some 20k miles when I go over bumps I can hear my car creaking/cracking. I assume I need to change the springs. I'm an idiot for not doing it then, but I misread a text when going to purchase them and when we went to do it my brother in law reminded me how much of a dumbass I am to not do it all at once. :ROFLMAO: I honestly just want to change the whole front end suspension at this point. Anyone know of a place that sells a whole front end suspension kit? I'd also just change the front wheel hub assembly while at it. As much as I want a new car (2016 Audi A6/A7), putting $1k or so and doing all the work is much cheaper than payments again. I'd assume I'd need sway bars, control arms, front wheel hub assembly, new springs, brakes/rotors, ball joints, etc. Anything else major I'm missing atm?
