Hello,

I have a 2014 JSW with the 6 Speed Manual transmission that's approaching 130,000 miles which will be due for the timing belt replacement. Asides from the timing belt change, what upgrades/modifications would be recommended for this car? I use the car as my daily driver. Thanks in advance.

Pat

Well keep in mind that the timing belt service means ALL of the timing pulleys, the water pump, the timing belt and usually the accessory belt. So you need at least 2 Qts of antifreeze. Most kits come with all of this.
If you were ever considering a CP3 fuel pump, that is the perfect time to do it.
As mentioned, its been 40k or more I would do the DSG service. And if more than 20k I would do the fuel filter.
It's a fun weekend of wrenching!

Yes, I will be doing all of the other stuff that goes along with the timing belt.

I would consider consider switching over to the CP3 fuel pump. That's a good point to consider.

I have the manual transmission. Not the DSG.

Thanks for the input!

There are just too many to list....
I'd not worry about the HPFP.

Manual transmissions have fluid, too.

Check the accessory belt tensioner pulley for bearing noise/play, check the alternator clutch pulley for proper operation.

Everything else is normal PM in the schedule. Good time to take the front fender liners out and clean/treat underneath them, since you'll have the right side half out anyway.

Check all the cv joint boots and replace as necessary. Ugh.
Check all front end components and brakes.
Check hoses and wiring harness for signs of chafing.
Make sure everything is routed properly when it goes back together.
How is your thermostat? At 10 years it might be starting to open early and probably isn’t going to last many more years. The work isn’t really related to the timing belt but while you have the coolant drained….

In addition to what @Wilkins said I'd also note it's prudent to check all your suspension components and rubber bushings. Tie rod ends, control arm bushings, sway bar end links, weeping struts, mounts, etc. If any are worn, you can often find other OEM parts that would be an upgrade (TTS, S3, etc).

Also agree on transmission fluid and the serpentine belt.

If you want to spend the coin, a Fluidampr.

I regrete not doing an O.E.M. thermostat @ TB change. It was O.E. and hit within specifications quickly but still Original.

Did you accumulate the parts individually?
I assumed most kits included a new one as standard

Edit: nevermind, I'm thinking water pump. The Tstat is a pain to change

I will get one of the kits that comes with all of the parts.

I dont know if any kit out there comes with a thermostat.

I wouldn't chance any aftermarket. Exact temp seems such an issue and the r&r is so labor intensive why increase your failure odds with a couple $ savings?

Thermostat is a rough job. I had the whole front off my a3 plus the AC compressor removed and it still was a tough job. At minimum you would want to put the front into service mode. I did my accessory belt tensioner too along with cp3 upgrade.
