I'm retiring my 2005 Golf with BEW engine. I'm parting the car out and keeping the engine for a future swap into my Audi A4.

What parts would be valuable to keep for the swap?

Engine obviously.
Harness
ECU

What else is handy to keep?

I suggest if you have never done a swap before, keep the whole car until you are done. This is not just particular to tdi's but any swap. If you have ever had the feeling of realizing you left parts on a car you have already sent to the crusher, knowing now you have buy them.
When you have done a swap with a particular system, you will know what you need. Just having a list will certainly leave you short.

I swapped a diesel into a Ford Tempo as well as a couple non-diesel swaps. I'm not a stranger to swapping. Just looking for collective wisdom from the tdi crowd. Those who have been there before.

Tempo? Was that a Mitsubishi motor? Considering the vintage...84/85? was all mechanical. Drive by wire is another animal. If there is a wire attached to it...keep it

No, you're thinking the 2.3L T which was in the Ford Ranger in 86-87. The Tempo/Escort used the Mazda R- a 2.0L square bore/stroke engine with mechanical pump. I used mostly factory parts and swapped it in a couple weekends.

The plan for the Audi is a factory swap to start, then a tune after it's working well.
