I usually go for the longest lasting Michelin tire I can find. I suspect we want different types of performance from our tires.

Performance for what?
Honesty buy the beat (usually most $) that you can afford of a tire with 250 to 350 UTQG rating.
If your going to autocross or actually do anything that requires performance other than silly back road shenanigans, anything higher than 250 is not worth it. Usually these tires, like the Re71 I run are not rated in miles, they are reated in heat cycles. Aka only good for about 1 year of life doing 60 miles to and from an event 30 times a year.
I dont care if its 10 miles away. You will not get more or less life. Heat cycles.

What's your use? If its daily driver you want to just do some autocross and backroad stuff all on one tire, really 350 is about your goal for softness.
Disregard anything else. Usually anything in that class with 50% tread is fine in all weather other than winter more than a dusting of snow.

If im honest this is all a bit new to me im only running 200 bhp and 410nm, not so much for track days more grip as i get a lot of wheel spin and lack of grip with the cheap ones i have.

What about ContinentalConti SportContact 6? I've heard a lot of good things about this tire model from my friends. They told me that it offers fantastic grip, greater control and maximum stability. I am honestly planning to avail of a wheel and tire packages once my Michelin Pilot Super Sport worn out. You can read reviews online to get more ideas on this tire.
