What Tire size?

There was some discussion about tire size on the 16 Inch Rim a while back.

I want to put a little more rubber on the ground without changing my rim size. Stock is 205/55, has anybody done a 215/50? Any rubbing issues? Is that too wide for the rim? What is the stock rim width? Any wear issues?

Randy, You mentioned $200 for a set of lowered springs? How much lower, and where did you get them?

Sorry for a lot of questions, but thanks for the replies in advance.

I just put continental DWS 225-50/16 on my 2006. Seem to work fine with just over 4k on them since the change.

I'm on my second set of 215/55R16., no rubbing or issues at all. Thinking of going a little wider on the next set, 225/50R16 most likely, especially since I know someone has already tried it. Depends on the tires available in that size.

My car has 205/65/16 since I bought it just over a year ago. I put 25k miles on them and never had an issue.

Pic's? 215/55 is also a little taller than stock, did it ride any better?

215/55s are just enough taller to allow the front to clear most parking blocks. Slightly lower RPM at cruise and speedo is slightly closer to actual than with stock tire size. They are just enough wider to give the wheels a little curb protection. No real difference in ride comfort, tire quality and choice has more to do with that. No rubbing under any conditions.

Common thinking is that wider tires is wrong direction for economy reasons. I like the positives enough not to care about that, especially with my fuel choice.

I went with Michelin HydroEdge in P 215/60/R16 94T, one size up from stock. They raise the vehicle a bit and are a quiet, good rain tire. They are a lot better than the stock Bridgestones.
