What Size Battery?

Does anyone have a source for the H6 size battery sleeve? The stock one meant for the H5 likely won't fit. I did see Amazon sells some insulation wraps, but it leaves the top exposed. I'm fine with a plastic box as well but prefer the fabric cloth cover.

From Golf Dave's thread at the UK Mk7 Golf forum:

Item No.12:- 5Q0 915 411H, Protective battery casing with flap for battery 69Ah/360A, 68Ah/380A, 72Ah/380A (H6/096 case size) for vehicles with, or without stop start, £23.02 (x1)

Here's some online options if your local dealer is pricey:

I didn't get to read your post quickly enough, already ordered one from aliexpress. Hopefully it isn't paper thin junk. I was piecing together an MIB2 retrofit and did some unrelated shopping.. heh. I'll report back on the quality.

Does anyone know the latest part number for the 72Ah non-AGM battery? This number: 000 915 105 DG doesn't seem to exist anymore.

Is this the latest part number? 000 915 089 F

When my original battery started getting weak, a friend who is a tech at Ford got me one of their agm h6 batteries. Was rated for 760cca but tested at about 1000cca.

It went in fine, the cover fits nice. I used VCDS to update the ecu and tell it that it has an agm. That was a couple years ago, no problems with it,

For anybody still following this thread, I installed an H7 battery in my 2015 GSW today. The H7 is a tight squeeze, but it fits if you forego the battery hold down clamp (missing on my car since I bought it in 2019 anyway). You have to pull the airbox up and forward about an inch, then set the battery on the tray and shimmy it toward the firewall under the tabs on the rear of the tray. It's a little bit of a PITA to wedge it in there but the battery will clear the front lip of the tray and the airbox mounting stud. It's definitely not going to slide around, so I'm not concerned about the hold down clamp missing at all. The whole process took 10 minutes in the freezing cold. Battery is a Walmart Everstart maxx, 790 CCA.

I have pics but it's not letting me post them right now.

Nobody has tried an H7 in a 2015 golf. And that would be a great battery upgrade from an H6

There's a thread on it at the UK forums.
After searching for 30 minutes I'm not seeing it. Lots of posts about going H5 to H6, programming with VCDS, and stupid arguments about the battery blanket, but none about fitting an H7. Can you post a link?

I don't have VCDS so I didn't program for the bigger battery. Since it's the same type as the old one and only marginally bigger, the charge profile should be similar and I'm not going to worry about it. Unless somebody wants to loan me their VCDS.

I think after reading multiple discussion here, there are no VCDS changes to the battery management system unless: a) you have engine-start/stop system (not in NA), or b) you switch to an AGM battery. We would have to check with cuzoe or one of the members with more Mk7 research time.

I don't have the thread for the H7 Mk7 mod saved, but I should be able to find it. I think GolfDave had it linked either at the vortex or maybe I found it somewhere in his the Mk7 battery upgrade thread at UKMk7. From recall they fit a new tray, but I can't remember what the process was.

GolfDave's thread here, for installation of larger (H6) battery... https://www.golfmk7.com/forums/inde...bigger-capacity-battery-to-a-mk7-golf.320084/
I haven't seen (or looked for) information on fitting an H7 battery. Not sure I'd want to have to remove/unsecure (even temporarily) anything to get the battery in/out. The factory tray accommodates H4, H5 and H6 by design.

As mentioned you should code the gateway for battery type if you change to AGM... or if you retrofit Start/Stop :censored:

I can't recall now what the EU owner did, but I think there is an EU market battery tray that can be swapped out. Almost all owners remove something temporarily to get the OE battery out (if the hold down is in place), otherwise, agree on insecure items in that area. Maybe I'll look through the parts numbers to see what's out there...not that I have free time for that.

Cuzoe, I have a Mk7 steering wheel Q for ya, but I won't clog up this thread.
