What should I be looking for when buying a "fixed" MK6 wagon?

Thinking of replacing my MK4 wagon with an MK6 wagon. Love the MK4 and it is reliable as hell, but I'm getting too old to be driving around this tractor. Looking for a bit more pleasant driving experience.

Now that "fixed" mk6 TDIs are coming back on the market I'm wondering what I should be on the lookout for. I understand many of these may have sat for some time between the turn-in and being fixed/resold. Presumably I should stay away from those, yes? Presumably that would show up on the Carfax/Carproof report?

Anything else I should look out for?

Also, should I stay away from any model years? Were there significant changes that aren't obvious?

Stay away from the pano/sun roofs. I'm so glad mine doesn't have one after reading of all the issues people deal with due to leaks from them. Not worth the headache. I bought my fixed JSW about a year and a half ago and the only issue I've had is with the DPF/EGR stuff which got replaced under the emissions warranty. Other than that it's been perfect. Have put about 24k mi or so on it from when I bought it with 30k.

The '09 TDIs have some engine differences, most notably the hex shaft driving the oil pump which can wear. However, if you replace it at the TB change you won't have problems.

I agree with the no sunroof advice. Otherwise these cars are pretty much the same. However, I'd also encourage you to drive one before deciding to jettison your MKIV. You may find, like me, that you like the MKIV better, despite its comparative lack of refinement.

I love my sunroof, but the shade was already broken when I bought mine so when I got the widows tinted I had them tint the sunroof too

X2

I live in hot dry area so that is a plus on the common sunroof block drains. I love mine.

As was previously posted, the DPF is probably the biggest unknown expense... Unless it was just done in the fix. 2011 and up move to the mkVI electronics. The 2015 mkVII has additional DPF fluid injection. Good or bad, I think the jury is still out. Seems mpg is better tho.?

Are they selling "fixed" Mk6s in Canada? I thought that was only a U.S. thing...
Y.
I don't know. I also bought my U.S. CPO 2/19 I believe it was the 1st release more or less. I haven't watched sales as close as when I was looking to buy. What auto dealer prices (low mile especially 6m) seem to be similar to when I was looking.

You can buy cars CPO or privately that have had the fix applied, I guess I don't know if any are buyback cars or not.

I generally avoid sunroofs as well (as I did on my MK4) but I have never seen 2012+ MK6 wagon with leather but no sunroof in Canada. I think all Highlines have them :(.

I have driven a couple MK6 over the years. I really do enjoy the more polished feel, and I quite like the shifter in the MK6. Oddly enough I was surprised at the lack of power in the one I drove recently. It apparently had a Stage 2/low torque tune and it felt substantially less responsive than my ALH with Stage 2 + PP520s. Based on the numbers I don't think that should be the case.
