What is filtered diesel?

I've seen some local gas stations advertising this. Some stations (of the chain) have this, others have regular diesel. I think it's actually different (not just a marketing term), because it has a yellow handle, their regular diesel has the green handle. However, I haven't been able to determine what the difference is, other than speculating that maybe it's a lower sulfur diesel.

I'm not an expert .... but assume that 'filtered' diesel means that they install and 'hopefully' change the filter on the pump? I suppose the could get away with sticking a mega-micron screen in place and still call it filtered. My guess is that its more marketing than anything, but hope all pumps filter the stuff coming out of the tanks.

There is no "official" terminology or description of "filtered" diesel fuel. It is just a marketing term by some enterprising fuel company.
An original one indeed. Certainly the filtration is not to the level we need for our TDI's to make any meaningful difference.

Normal "Jet A" fuel is actually Kerosene which is more highly filtered. It is possible that they are filtering the diesel beyond normal filteration.

I'll tell you this, some of the stuff I have seen in transport tanks I would not want in my fuel tank. Also never buy fuel while they are receiving a delivery or just after the delivery. It needs to settle down for a while because everything in the tank gets stirred up. I hauled the stuff for 20 years and have had lots of opportunity to see the inside of transport tankers and know what is going into the stations tank.

Diesel filtered through a cheesecloth is better than non-filtered.....
