What is a reasonable asking price for a 2001 Golf?

We have a new vehicle with much needed awd, and we are looking to sell our Golf. What should I ask though? 133,000 miles, some rust on front of doors, Ac does not work, turbo and steering rack replaced, aluminum skid plate installed and brand new tires. It will be up for a TB soon, the last one was at 57,000. No check engine lights, a few dings where a tree branch hit a fender..
I just don’t know what to ask. I’ll post more pics in classified forum when I list it. Thanks!

You could try hitting up Craigslist for your local area, see what they're going for. For the work it needs, $1500-$2000 is a good starting point.

No listings in my area for older TDIs unfortunately..the trade in value was basically non existent which is too bad, it drives and handles well.

As great of a car these cars are... They don't hold resale valve much anymore.

That's unusually low miles for an alh. That would probably sell for 5k (Canadian) where I am. As long as there's no rusted through areas. Proper timing belt job costs 1000 bucks though so keep that in mind.

Its also not hard to sell a tdi where I am. Only ones I see for sale are clapped out and/or abused and full of issues

Needs TB and has rust.
The rust on the doors is less of an issue (cost of repair) than where the body is rusted in front of and inbound of there.

Auto - $1200-1500
Manual - $2500-3000

That's a non-rust belt perspective.

It’s a manual. 20 years on the original clutch...not sure if that’s a selling point though..
Means it wasn't beat on and abused. I'd entertain the idea of it if I was looking for a car. Not abused any car that's 20+ years old are hard to come by.

Fellow Michigander here. Realistic selling price on that car is $1200. It needs a TB immediately upon purchase. I have a coworker who travels 110 miles per day and I sent him this thread.

With brand new tires? Nah. $1200 around here will get you an old Chevy Cavalier though.

Sadly buyers I've seen only "add" about $200 to the "value" of a vehicle with brand new tires. Are they "brand new" but 3 years old or "brand new" 2 months old, there's a difference. I've seen people selling vehicles with "brand new" 3 year old tires...

Brand new as in less than fifty miles on them.
