WHAT Does this VCDS Fault Mean

he DPF efficiency is a NEW one I don't recall. EPA Mod was done. I have anti-shutter valve nuisances over the years. These two are DPF Trap Bank 1 and EGR. .

Miles 134149 K. Yes I know low but what I do. Overall MPG same and running well, lots of power. 95.7% load sounds bad. Is this a sign the DPF is clogged at 135K?

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS.. I reset all the faults and cleared CEL. I have not driven much since clearing faults.

BTW How do I change the date on VCDS. Date of scan Tuesday,16,July,2024. The dates on the faults are 2018? I did not scan after CLE came on so it is likely the mileage is correct from time of fault. I drove at least 1.5 fuel tanks post CEL. I recall an interrupted REGEN one or two times. I try to avoid and typically do things to let it complete, but in a hurry I just shut down. Not sure if that tripped it? Wild Guessing...

DPF isn't clogged, but cracked, and leaking soot into the egr system & clogging that up.
WOW that is bad and you said it with such authority. :) Hope you are wrong. But questions...

Googled it as I should have done to start with.. Found 8 yro thread. Crack of DPF possible reason. There is also a VW TSB on this. Need to read it.

SAFE TO DRIVE?
HOW TO FIX?
(I know to get to it drop dmsub frame. Not a DIY job I want to do.)
.
Bentley Service Manual see Low pressure EGR *filter*. EGR valve is in the way when I changed oil filter today.

I plan on a 1400 mile round trip next week. Can I bugger up something? It's already cacked...

It should be ok to drive for now. I'd remove the EGR filter pipe & spray it with brake cleaner before taking that trip.

If it's registered in Tenn you might be able to delete it too.
is that pipe up top to egr valve, or low pressure egr filter (that I have no clue where it is on car).

Delete is an option but also a no no. Not sure what I'll do... to replace sounds like $2500 to $4000. Delete pipe and programming? Replacing DPF may be easier.

The egr filter connects the DPF to the egr cooler. It's just above the passenger axle, right about the center of the car. You need a 5mm allen wrench or socket at the DPF side, and there's two 13mm bolts on the cooler side. It would help if you had a socket swivel adapter for those.

VCDS uses the current date your computer reports
I think the OP is referring to the freeze frame dates, which are not reported correctly for the CJAA engine control module. The freeze frame dates reported from our 03L906019DA by VCDS are always in the past by 4-5 years (and with my Foxwell NT510, are way in the future). The "mileage" in km, OTOH, appear correct. --g

WELL.... Went on a 35 mile drive, parked for 4 hrs. No CEL. Then drove back 35 miles, 70 miles total.
CEL light came on at some point. Have not scanned but sure what it will be DPF "efficiency" and low flow EGR.
I will try some FORCED REGENS as I go through my 5 stages of grief.

SHOCK. Called Dealer and they said GO AWAY YOUR CAR IS TOO OLD and refused to work on it. They said their cutoff 2012. I asked to talk to manager. We had a nice discussion and he was willing to inspect it ($$$$) and if OK will work on it. The reason he gave is old cars break, have other multiple issues or they can't get parts. So customers complain. OK. I debated that. He is not wrong. As far as parts EPA I am sure makes manufactures stock pollution control parts past the min of 10 yrs. Being diesel I am sure DPF's will be made for a long time to come. The dealer Quoted $4000 all in. I have no intention of ever going to dealer, but called to get a quote for data point. $4K is standard quote.

Called my favorite Independent VW AUDI Porsche Shop and they quoted $3800 as a quick quote, with all new clamps. I asked about DPF delete and they said they could, but DO NOT do them as business decision due to EPA violations being so hefty and another shop in the region being fined. Otherwise they would do it from a technical stand point, they just do not. They are OUT which is 100% understandable.

DPF DELETE, not that I would do it, just curious the cost. See the ECO kit is $1200 and tune $700 ball park $2000 all in. Labor I guess is about the same, so DPF replace would not be much more than delete, unless I DIY.

  • Is DPF delete a DIY project? (I am handy but subframe drop if needed would be a turn off) Not that I would do this, just asking.
  • PROS? Guessing better MPG, Perf, not REGENS cooking the TURBO and wasting fuel. Slightly less cost from DPF.
  • CONS? Not approved by Gov, subject to penalties. Resale, states with emission inspections.
  • IS IT SAFE TO DRIVE CAR LONG DISTANCE, SAY 2000 MILES BEFORE REPAIR. I have a road trip I am considering later this year.

There are just too many to list....
The subframe is not at all hard to R&R, you shouldn't let that stop you from doing this yourself if you are otherwise reasonably handy with servicing cars and have a decent access to tools and some basic skills.
