What does the chip do?

What exactly does, say, and UpSolute chip do to deliver the increase in power? Spin up the turbo faster? Feed more fuel or something? What parts would potentially wear out prematurely due to the chip, and when - 100K miles or so? I plan to keep the car for a while, and I'm having my 20,000 mile checkup on my Jetta that I purchased new in Dec. 2002. I'm thinking it's about time to give Sonny a call...

Thanks,
Vicki

1) Increases boost
2) Increases fueling
3) Optimizes timing. (Timing is set retarded on purpose by VW to reduce NOx emmisions.)

Hmmm Upsolute chip makes the car way more fun to drive.

It only increases the boost a little teeny bit.

Fuel map is optimized.

Main premature wear concern is clutch.....using Gtech Pro my 2002 came out at about 120hp at the wheels which converts to about 130hp at the flywheel. 0 -60 mph time should be around 7 seconds, but you need the right tires: my 205/55-16 Firestone SH30's spin for the first 3.9 seconds in every one of my trials, sigh, still around 9.1 seconds....

Mileage does not degrade unless you use the added power. I like the added power for freeway passing power, the surge when you punch the throttle is just amazing.

Okay, thanks for the info. I was talking about this with a friend who had his Dodge turbo diesel pickup chipped and he asked about what the VW chip did exactly, and I didn't know the answer.

As far as chipping sooner, I have only been working since beginning of June and, well sometimes money gets prioritized and spent elsewhere. You know, mortgage, food, etc. And of course my other new toy...

I know, not a Jetta TDi but certainly more fun.

I have an EDGE Products fueling module in my
'01 Cummins powered Ram. Makes a HUGE difference
compared to stock. And a lot more smoke!

used to have an R100GS

going to get my car chiped when I can afford the clutch job it will inevitably need
