I bought my 2002 Jetta GLS TDI, Black on tan leather, monsoon, power everything, only 206,000kms, just had the timing belt changed for $3000

I've had it since November 1st 2010 and i've already put 5000kms on it.

The only things i've done have been, thermostat replacement, new winter tires.

I cannot express how much i love this car.

I got my '03 Jetta GLS TDI with 94K on it for a little under $9K out the door at a dealer. The original owner brought it in with a seized turbo, which was taken care of. The body is a little rough with scratches, etc, but it doesn't look like it's been hit. It's silver, so it doesn't show the rash much. I'm happy with it so far. I bought it w/o doing a ton of research-- just wanted a commuter car that gets a lot better mileage than my Tundra.

I'm a little freaked by some of the horror stories I've read here about VW reliability... At least it looks like I got one of the better ones (VE). I love the heated seats! (Which are a big plus when a car takes ten miles to warm up...)

I'm beginning to feel like I really stole my TDI. Granted it's a '99, so it has some small door dings and I have a Glow plug DTC, I didn't pay half of what it looks like I probably should have.

We bought our '06 TDI Jetta back in February and paid $13,500. It only had like 30k miles on it. Like new. Also just bought a '99.5 TDI Jetta in October and paid $4k. It had 200k miles on it.

Just bought my 2003 Jetta TDI, 5sp. with 142K miles for $5,500 through a private owner. Has all options, leather sunroof, monsoon, heated seats/mirrors, steering wheel controls, etc. All maintenance was up to date, but does need some new shocks/struts as the ride is a little bouncy with the originals. I feel as though I got a good deal!

Paid 8k out the door, for a 2K auto Golf, from a dealer last year with 120k. Had to have a 2 door. High but I wanted a TDi that bad. I did not want to travel out of state to get one, at the time, and could sit it out and wait for the right one, at the right price point. It was this Golf or a Honda Fit.

I bought it because of the carfax history.

It needed work but I love modding this car. I am going to sink a lot of $ into this when it's all said and done. But I love VW TDIs and working on it releases so much stress and fills me with satisfaction. When the task has been successfully completed. I cannot think of any other brand of vehicle other than classic cars, the gives me the joy that these do. 'Nuff said?

My first EBay purchase was my 2000 Jetta TDI, March 2002. I had been doing a lot of "window" shopping, both on the Internet and locally when I found what I wanted. Also, my brother had purchased a new Jetta TDI only months earlier and I thought it was awesome!

Anyway, I received a message for a second chance offer. I was the high bidder but did not meet the guy's reserve. We were within $200.00 and did a comprimise! I told him I wanted to drive it, kick the tires, etc., before making the deal final. So, a road trip to Huntsville, AL was made and I left him a $500.00 deposit and went back a week later for the vehicle!

I paid $14,300.00 for it with no warranty, worn out tires and 44,940 miles on the odometer............ain't looked back! It has served me well! To date: 279k miles and running great!

I just bought mine (2000 MKIV jetta) a week and a half ago for $4,000. It has 186,000 miles and needed a TB replaced and the alternator pulley and tensioner fixed.

Funny thing...the guys who started this thread were buying these same cars new!

I bought my 2005 wagon last July from a dealer on ebay for $8900. It had 167k miles a little high for this year but it was a clean one owner, had everything I wanted. ESP, leather heated seats. Great shape inside and out. So far I've replaced the timing belt, tires, lift pump, rear breaks, oil/filters and glovebox light :) I think blue book was $1100. So far it's been great and the tiptronic trany works like a charm.... very smooth. I couldn't be happier.

I bought my 2004 Golf tdi for $3000 w/180,000 miles, it had a lot of interior cosmetic problems, and most of the warning lights were on for one reason or another, but it runs great.

Bought the 03 Jetta GLS sedan last month for $7500. A little more than book, but my savings in fuel almost covers the monthly payment! Bought it with 139k and a month later we're at 142! Hard to argue with 600+ miles on a 14 gallon tank!

$6500 for 2004 Jetta Wagon with 222,000 miles, purchased last March. One owner, all highway commuter miles, very well maintained. I have since done a clutch (needed it) and timing belt (preventative maint.) I have had zero issues and am still getting 42+ mpg with a 100 mile daily commute. Currently showing 241,000 miles. This is my 8th VW and 2nd TDI.
