1999 New Beetle
Newbie here, at least w/ TDI's. owned 3 of the older Diesel VW's. Just bought 1999 TDI Beetle w/ 98,900 miles for 3800$. Timing belt never changed (did it myself), had hard starting issue, but was able to do the 'relay' wiring/coolant sensor fix and now starts and runs like a top. Other than having to put on new front brake disks and pads, Passenger window has issues closing, a little weirdness in the door lock area, blown out speakers (junk speakers), a little cigarette smoke smell in the interior and a few burn marks on seats, the car is in great shape! I'm loving it. My wife does too. It was a great upgrade from my 84 Jetta diesel. Weird, though how similar the construction and feel between the two cars are. I would have to say, in my opinion, the older German made Jetta is better quality than the Mexican made Beetle.

A little over two months ago I paid $8200 for my 2004 New Beetle with 99K miles on it. It did not have alloy wheels or a sunroof, does that make it a GL? Anyway, it did have a Thule rack with a bike carrier on it. After taxes and fees it was $9K. Woodstock barely had a ding on her and looked virtually brand new inside, at 6 years old :D

if you want to make a mint on your tdi just come to granolaville aka seattle, where all the clueless yuppie hippie wannabees drive tdi prices stratospheric.
I was looking for a second tdi with about 150k or less, and people are asking upwards of 7k on craigslist for clapped out auto beetles and salvage title jettas with around 180-200k miles on it.
but of course, its okay because these cars last for "450k miles easy" and get "50+ mpg" running recycled fish oil (no fish were harmed of course)
ugh.

'04 Jetta GLS TDI - $6500

Just paid $6500 CDN for my '04 Jetta TDI GLS with leather, 15" alloys and sunroof, 190k kms (120k miles). Dealer originally asked $12,999, but it sat on the lot for a year as the Frod, I mean Ford, dealer had no clue how to market it - they didn't even list it as a TDI in the ads, so I overlooked it many times myself. I gave them a low offer knowing they wanted it gone, and they accepted. It has no history, so will need a TB asap, and needs a front wheel bearing. Drives very well, with lots of power and everything is tight. Yes, it might need a cam and lifters as well, but even so, the price was fair I think.

First post here.

At anyrate. Had been looking for a TDI for a while and came across a 2000 Golf that was told by a VW expert in MN that it had a blowing motor. Gave the guy 300 dollars for it brought it home played with it for about 15min and realized that it was just a bad alternator. So got a used alternator for 60 bucks and have been driving it since. While I was waiting on the alternator cleaned the intake and deleted the EGR valve.

Here some pics of the intake

Before

During the cleaning

All welded back together

EGR block off

And the car when I brought it home

Car has 240,000 miles on it but the interior and exterior are in mint condition. Just got thru my first tank of fuel and got 43mpg with it and thats all city driving didnt think that was to bad.

Went down to Asheville 2 weeks ago & brought back a 2003 GL wagon with 118,500 miles for $8600. It has a new windshield & tires, & working cruise after a $30 clutch switch. It came with a stack of receipts, including the one for the TB that doesn't list any of the stretch bolts or seals!! Way to go dealer!

Some awesome deals people are getting here!

I just bought an '03 with 126k, Jetta 5 spd with Monsoon, roof, alloys, heated cloth. Paid $6k and should have negotiated harder but I didn't see anything to gripe about at the time, and it was silver with the hot seats which I always wanted after my black jetta without heat...so I got a little emotional and wrote the check right out :)

The guy was 2 hours away and delivered it right to my driveway which was nice of him considering I hadn't committed to buy

Bought mine Aug. 28/2010. Bought it from a GM stealership for $9,500 CDN. Didn't care about the price, they were giving me $4,200 for my piece of **** Subaru so that made up my mind pretty quick.

2003 Jetta TDI w/ all the fixin's + a ski rack with 178,000km.

I saw another '03 with 120,000km in the local classifieds for $18,000....... idiots.

Picked up a 2006 Jetta TDI DSG with 33k miles about 3 weeks ago... it's the low-end model (no steering controls/bluetooth, nav or fuel economy "computer," but it has leather and partial-auto (??) seats). Looks like it was kept in a museum and runs great. Paid $16k.

Traded in my 2007 4Runner for $1500 more than I paid for it two years ago, haha.

After about 6 months of searching for my perfect vehicle I found one. I purchased a 2003 Jetta Wagon, nearly loaded, with only 40,000 miles. It is a 1 owner car that has no record (never even financed). I wish it had a manual transmission, but that's a project for years down the road. I think it was a great deal at just $10,500. After all, the car is PERFECT and has less miles than any other TDI wagon I've ever seen. Timing belt should probably be replaced though.

$16,000. Bought it in Wisconsin in November.

Tax of $1,040 paid in Illinois, a month later. State registration/title fee was $45?

It pays to shop until you find a salesman/dealer that is not a stroke.

I have finally joined The Club. I just bought a 2003 Jetta TDI with 85,000 w/ manual transmission. It is charcoal grey and looks great on the outside. Minor issues with the door cards and headliner that I am going to fix soon.

Only cost $7400.
