1999.5 TDi, 2 door red, no rust at the time of purchase with 258,000kms. All records of maintenance, drivers door lock on order and paid for, timing belt just changed recently for $2,500. Ya my Dad had it for sale in 2006. Now she has 541,200kms on it.

I just bought (yesterday) a 2001 GLS TDI for $4200 (Toranado Red-198,000 miles) I have an Air Bag light on and the engine light is on. I was told the light was from glow plugs, but I will find out once I put my VAG Com on it. The car does suffer a slight low power accerleration, but it will hold speed up good size hills and will easily cruise at 80 to 85mph so the problem isn't severe.

My only question is will my VAG COM connector work. My VAG COM setup was for a 98 Jetta TDI and where is the interface located on the 2001 Jetta.

I really really like my purchase and I believe I can work through these problems.

thanks to Dieseldave!!!!...who made the trip down yesterday with the holiest of tools...the "slide hammer" which we all know allows us to unlock the secrets of the nozzles....which we swapped out my old sprints for some nicely cleaned,balanced, shimmed injectors with the diamond coated PP502's from the prophet DBW!!! a little IQ adjusting, and i had a leaner,meaner vnt17 huffing 01 Golf.....have a nice day!!!

I just picked up a 2001 Jetta for $5500, loaded, leather, sunroof, body is really good shape. I'm looking for an engine cover but other then that it's in good shape. Now I just need to make it mine by going over it from head to toe and make sure all the hidden stuff is good. First time owning a diesel and over 300 miles with 1/2 tank to go, I'M LOVING IT!!!

Last Monday I paid $2500 cash for my 2001 beetle. Red, 166k, never wrecked although the drivers side rear bumper has a caved spot, nothing huge, and it can be popped back out once i figure out how to get in there to it.

I paid £6000 for my 02 1.9 TDi PD New Beetle with Winter Pack with 67K on the clock, which was over the odds but they did give me £3300 for my 2000 2.0 New Beetle with 67k and Winter pack on which was probably £1000 over book, so technically I paid £5k for it

TDi's (as fitted to Mk2 Golfs onwards) in the UK range from £500 to whatever they cost new depending on age, mileage etc

We are the 4th owner and this car had been stolen from the original owner and she ended up in a police auction. The 3rd owner paid ~ $7,000 in 2006 and we paid $6,150. She has 97K miles!

The car's front bumper spoiler had a history of getting hooked over parking curb sections and then damaged when the car was backed out of the space.
After ~3 such attempts at repairs, eventually the two lower anchor-point tabs were completely ripped into! The car's nose was being held to the car's fenders by black duct tape! She was sad looking!

My past experience at doing what is often called "plastic welding" I repaired the bumper cover and saved ~$600 in the process. I took photos and hope to find time soon to write up a project report on how this repair was accomplised. Let me know IF any of you are interested in this repair... so I'll know it's worth my time to put together a report with photos!

Catching up on neglected maintenance now for this lady!:
[1] Tightened/topped fuel leaks at 2 or 3 of the 4 injectors!
[2] I have done my first oil & filter change.
[3] Today I change the fuel filter and filled the new filter with "Diesel Purge" a German product I started using when I was 1st learning diesels with our 1980 240D Mercedes.

Just purchased a 1999.5 MKIV Jetta with 240k on the body and 25k on the motor, clutch, and turbo. Car is pretty much stock other than being lowered a little bit with aftermarket shocks. I bought it for $3,000 knowing it would need a full brake job and new starter, so after purchasing everything I needed for the work, I probably have dropped another $1000 into the car. Sweet ride though. In your honest opinions, was this a decent deal? Other defects would include broken plastic parts in interior and a sagging driver's door. Let me know what you think...thanks

98 Beetle

I bout my 1998 New Beetle with 139,000 miles on her. She's got a 5 speed and I've been getting 43 mpg city and 57 highway. Paid $2925.

I've put 5000 miles on her and she's a bit fickle. Starter jammed a few times. Think I'll get a bit of work done on her. Any recommendations? Last timing belt was 112K. She seems to have been very well cared for.

I got my Seat Leon (don't know if these are available to you over the water) with the VW 1.9 TDI non PD engine for £1400 thats about 2200 USD.

Infact the Leon uses the same chassis as the A3 and Golf mkIV. Just a different body.

03 TDI GL i believe 5spd shifty, cloth interior, etc. brand new in march of 03. only additions were mudflaps and rain deflectors on the front windows. they wanted us to pay like 600 dollars more for those flaps and deflectors, but when you say fine, take them off then, they say nevermind.

We got 0% financing for 5 years and paid 19,500 for it I believe. Our payments were like 325 a month.

Just picked up a 2006 MKIV Golf GLS with 48K on it, for $13K. Decent deal I think? I'm the second owner, and was provided with all service records.

Just added a power module, evo skid plate, tinted windows, aftermarket wheels/tires, and a sat radio. Not bad.

Now I need to get rid of a few other vehicles. Running out of space!
