What did you do to your MkVI-A6 today?

Did an oil and filter change.

Decided to go with Schaeffer's 5w40 Diesel oil this change since I've some undesirable things about Rotella lately.

That's why I couldn't find this thread - nobody posted to it since February.

So from my crash in 2023, the title on my 2013 JSW was in limbo. Because of something my insurance company filed, I had a legal restraint remark on my registration, which meant that I was supposed to apply for a salvage title and then a rebuilt salvage (the car has been fully mechanically/aesthetically repaired, and has no signs of ever having been in a collision). Took damn near over a year and a half at the body shop, but the owner and his wife are like extended family, and I told him to take his time (because that saved me at least $5000+ in insurance premiums).

So another claims rep clued me into state law, which I semi already knew about (especially with hail). In Texas, if the cost of repairs to a vehicle excluding labor, paint and tax are less than the ACV (actual cash value), it does not meet the State thresholds to require a salvage title. Apparently, a VTR-436-E was filed, to correct this two years ago, but nobody processed it (and the form is referenced in online PDFs from Texas DMV, but you can't actually download it). Anyways - I got this accomplished this week. Amazingly, someone from the DMV responded to me and the insurance total loss claims rep (I was CCed on it), said he would update the title record, and I registered it yesterday. I keep my same vanity plates, title stays as it was, and the car is now registered and insured.

I need to find time to replace the RCV on my AC compressor, but otherwise happy I can start using it again, and find ways to mix it up between my pair of 2002 Golfs (which have been my daily drivers for the past two years). It's also really weird - when I've taken it onto the highway at night for testing, after I got it from the body shop, I didn't really use 6th gear, because I haven't had a 6th gear for two years. It's so surreal getting so low of RPMs at 70mph!

My old sticker...

And my new one. Not sure how next year will work; my plates are apparently still good until September 2026, but regisration expires in March... which coincidentially is when another Golf, my farm truck, and half my trailers are also due, so I get to register like 6 vehicles in the same transaction.

I no longer need to be concerned with the 507 rating. No emissions testing in my area, if you catch my drift.
same here. Even when I had a DPF, I'd still put in Rotella. I didn't GAF, because I knew it'd eventually come off. Now, I just get whatever's on sale at Carquest, or Rotella if I'm at Walmart. Same for the ALHs as well.

What I did today. Replaced my rear right wheel bearing and ABS sensor, hoping that fixes a persistent problem I've been having. Time for the test drive. Also noticed that Schaffler bearings are now made in China, but they omitted a three letter word that gets a lot of people on the facebook TDI group put in facebook jail.

I'm mildly irritated. After spending way too much time removing the radiator fans, so I could remove the circlip and swap out RCVs, my high pressure hose leaked, so now I get to pull a vacuum again. At least I have a fairly efficient scientific pump at my disposal.

As you can see below, the AC temp maxed out at 61 degrees. I'm hoping I'll see much cooler temps once my vacuum is pulled, there aren't leaks, and I can start refilling again.

Photos of the RCV are what I pulled out of the compressor.

And success. Not really shocking, but the old RCV was definitely bad. It'd be nice if it were a bit cooler, but it's 70 degrees outside and about 91% humidity. I drove down the driveway and back to get some more airflow across the condenser, and temperatures fluctuated between 46 and 48.

At one point while filling, it got to 43.5, so I'm wondering if I should've just left it alone at that point.

Is that picture of all the vacuum you pulled?
What were the gauges showing after filling?
When I did my Touareg's system last year, I learned way too much about A/C systems, charges, etc.... (that I had no intention of doing)
Fill pressures and qty play a big role on performance.
I got mine (newer and larger system I know) to supply 40ºF at the vent sitting parked....
We actually had a decent warm day yesterday (77ºF when I left @ 4:30pm) and my vehicle sat out in the sun while at work. I had my interior setting on 67ºF when I went to drive home, and my interior was cooled down and the HVAC fan was just a tick above the lowest speed (auto speed) after less than 10min of driving... the system didn't have any issues easily reaching and maintaining temp.

I had the AC recharged at the dealer just a day ago in my 2010 MK6 Golf TDI with 208K miles. Nothing in the AC had been touched since it was new in 2010 and I thought it was a little weak last year so I asked about recharging the system. They didn't provided numbers about what was removed and refilled, but they noted that they measured 46ºF from the vent. It was approximately 76ºF when they measured the temperature from the vent.

I thought the AC felt a bit colder yesterday, but it's still not as good as the AC in my 2019 MK7.5 Golf R.

There's a lot that can impact the system's performance.
Everything from general condition of components, to wear of compressor, to charge amounts, to pressures, to pulling a deep and complete vacuum prior to recharge, etc.
When you just do whatever to just make it work, you're probably not covering all those things.

Technically, no. I got my vacuum down to 29-30, then started filling. Damn high pressure line wasn't fully tightened on, so it leaked. So I pulled a vacuum again, and took that photo before it was fully vacuumed out.

I was reading the R-12 side, but I want to say around 32-35psi on the low side, and I think the high was around 140-150?

I got mine down to 43.5, and a little higher after I got inside the car myself. It was also 70 degrees and 91% humidity last night. When I did the system on DSOL, I want to say I got it down to 38 degrees, but I replaced everything and ran flush through the evaporator.

Technically, if you want to get the best performance, you should be pulling a deep vacuum and using a micron gauge down to 500 microns ideally.

I was trying to figure out the micron and Torr deal. I just know I've had very good luck using this vacuum pump in the past with evacuating and pulling a vacuum on sulfur dioxide refrigerators, but it's served me well with my TDIs as well. I couldn't justify buying a crappy Harbor Freight vacuum pump, when this thing originally sold in the thousands (I obviously didn't pay that much).
