Yesterday, I deliberately rolled the window down at a stoplight and sniffed a bunch. The stink from last month's DSG service is finally gone! Liqui Moly is absolutely nasty.

Today, I'm cutting the pipe insulation I bought so I can block up the lower grill to prevent a repeat intercooler icing incident ahead of a long road trip. Anyone here continue to have icing problems after putting at least a lower grill cover on? I know the correct solution is a delete, but hopefully I can wait to do that on my own terms once I have a garage to park it in...

Did the lower grill block-off using a piece of corrugated plastic two winters ago and never any issues since doing so. I attach it using zip ties so that it is easier to remove in the spring. I would post up pictures but I have never figured out how to do that.

My wife complained that her brake pedal was soft (2013 JSW), so today we bled the brakes and flushed the fluid. The previous owner had used blue fluid, obvious since the fluid was green. Made it easy to ensure fresh fluid had replaced the old fluid. This was done in the afternoon, took about 2.5 hours (I'm old and slow) and about 1 liter. She said the brakes were OK after the test drive. Yay!

Cheers,

PH

Anyone having issues with MK6 Manual 6 speed synchronization failing? I have a MK6, 6 speed manual, Stage 2, SMF. This is the second time I have to pull the transmission to replace the Syncro rings due to the tabs breaking off.
Anyone having this problem?

I had the same issue when i tried a single mass flywheel/high performance clutch. Not only did it take out my synchro's but i believe it also led to the demise of my input shaft bearings which in turn cocked sideways and toasted the transmission housing. got lucky? and found one of the last factory refurbished transmissions in the US. No more SMF's for me.

I replaced the hatch latch on my 2010 MK6 Golf TDI. It simply stopped working and the hatch wouldn't latch. It was easy to replace after watching a couple of videos! I looked online a little for the part but ended up paying quite a bit more to get it in one day at the dealer. The VW parts sites showed the OEM part as not available, other sources were not OEM, and I didn't want to wait to try the fix, so I just paid extra at my dealer and was happy to get the part immediately.

Finished up an OEM adaptive cruise control retrofit! Was about 2 months of planning and parts purchasing in my spare time, but I'm really happy with how it turned out.
Hey that's awesome! Did you follow it the instructions from this link?

bought the new 2014 gray JSW today! she has 105k miles. super nice all around.

2014 JSW TDI DSG (Xman Hybrid CR170/CP3/Malone ST3/Whitbread timing belt protector/Osiris plate/2200 Bar FPS/4 bar map) OEM+ MIB2 with 2017+ Rear view camera unit (crystal clear view)
2015 Passat TDI SE DSG - formerly Stevenson Tune with DarkSide exhaust. (now Rawtek exhaust w Malone ST2) w/ Osiris plate.
2013 Jetta TDI (step-daughter's) Malone 0.5
new gray 2014 JSW 105k miles. (all stock) black interior.

Lordy, that's some TDI family you got there.

What will you do to it? No way you'll keep it stock.

LOL yes thats in the works. (rawtek is out sadly)

Gf owns the Passat. Her daughter owns the Jetta sedan, 2 JSW are mine. Gray is our back up if Passat or my white JSW go down for maintenance etc.

I maintain the TDI fleet myself…..

I work as an videophone technician to help people to have access to them including 911 calls. Therefore we cannot afford to miss work etc.

Gf works as an pet sitter as we own the business as
local owned business.

So you get the drift.

Look into flowdirekt downpipe from mecevo. I have a rawtek and I wish I went with flowdirekt as it's a one piece minus the flex pipe. You won't be disappointed.

Josh Jetta did a BRM down pipe as an "OEM" delete.

That MCEVO kit is the one I went with simply because with rawtek unavailable in the US, it was the only place that I could find that offered a high flow catalytic converter as a package. Seems really well fabricated from what I can tell. All the unions and the sensor bungs were well wrapped and protected. The cat section is welded to the downpipe section, so it all goes in at once, then you sleeve it onto the back end of the exhaust.

Heads up if you get one now. Canadian postal service is on strike.

Posties back on the job as of a little over a week ago - Dec17.
But there is a LOT of backlog for them to catch up on, so postal deliveries will most likely still be slower than usual for a while.

I like the idea of the BRM "delete pipe", as it retains a cat that can't be sawed off in 45 seconds by a meth head. But where can you find a used one? Scrappers are outlawed from selling them, so you have to find someone parting out their car.

yep I realized that after hearing from speedmaster on Monday/Tuesday... l looked around. it was impossible to find the BRM exhaust then the recent reply from him confirmed my suspicions.

so this idea has been shelved. case closed.

will look for the aftermarket exhaust out there.

landed into this, https://dieseldoc.com/

I have yet to break a spring on my JSW, but I also have Neuspeed Sports all around. Can't speak for OEM.
I broke a rear spring in the rear sometime in the last year and a half, followed by a front spring last month... after the front spring broke, I said alright, time for something different, and decided to throw on some coil overs for the first time. Went with solowerks, and so far so good. Ride is like OEM, at least, tired OEM as that's the only reference point I have from my original suspension with 110k on it. I also didn't drop it like crazy, maybe about an inch, inch and half from stock. Fills the wheel gap just nicely

I'll see how it rides in the summer, as I'm currently on the stock 16 alloys for winter, and have OEM Audi A3 18s for summer

Yeah, the Neuspeeds I have in mine definitely drop the car where it's quite noticeable. I'm guessing the stock 16's have snow tires, given where you're located? I'm so excited - we might see snow here in Texas on Thursday.

Winter tires indeed on the 16s, and enjoy it if you get some white stuff, I personally can't stand it anymore, need to move south
