For the first time in close to 5 years of ownership - my car was hit...
My car was parked at work and one of my coworkers had come in and asked me what happened to my bumper. I was thoroughly confused because there wasn't anything wrong as far as I was aware. Low and behold, I walk out there to see what they were talking about and find this:

Luckily it was still early in the morning, so I was able to sort through the security camera footage for the camera that was on the corner of the building looking right at my car. It didn't take long before I stumbled upon some absolute moron who went into the gas station next door, bought a Fourloko, came back out, chugged it down, tossed the can out his window, and proceeded to do the wildest backing up maneuver I've ever seen; hitting my car and leaving the scene.
I'd be f**king pissed! At least your fog light is okay, but still! Hopefully they catch that prick.

Took advantage of the cold weather and having some down time today. Making good progress on stripping the parts car. Almost have the entire interior out, what a chore! I’m not looking forward to doing 2 more times when I pull my cornsilk out and replace it with this black set.

Did you buy that blue one in MN?

What I did this week... took Amanda's JSW to Pierce Family Automotive. Got the flywheel done, turned out the t-stat was bad and I made a near fatal mistake - didn't tighten down the harmonic balancer bolts, so I had 1 out of 4 left. Thankfully, there was a CBEA in the junkyard that had said bolts and balancer. Also snagged four sets of PD injectors to resell (including two BH-trouble-U sets). All in all, a productive and profitable week.

Unclogged my front drains last week, so figured i'd check the back ones today. Right one was dirty, so i poked a bicycle brake cable in the exit valve to clean it out. That popped the hose off the end valve, so i "got to" tear apart the trunk interior and clean the hose.

Decided i didn't care for the hose layout (there's a ground junction under the exit, so if it leaks, guess what's getting corroded). So after cleaning the hose, i rerouted it. Instead of going back to the wheel well & pinch valve, i cut a hole in the body grommet below, and ran an extension hose through that, so now the water will dump out the undercarriage instead of the wheel well. Obviously being hidden behind the wheel liner didn't prevent it from clogging.

Left side was clean, but i rerouted it as well. It really annoys me they didn't run the hose all the way along the body curve and exit out by the bumper, instead they shortened the hose & gave it a bunch of 90degree turns, to help it clog more.

I need to do the same to the front some day.

Congrats! That's exciting. Makes me hold out hope for my son's JSW, now at 140K.

Hit 130k miles last month. Took my car to a friend who worked for a local VW dealer here as their “go to” TDI guy. He did the timing and serp belts/bolts rollers, water pump (thanks ID Parts), thermostat and coolant flush. Oil and filter changes tomorrow.
I had sooty tailpipes earlier this month but no codes. Finally got the dreaded “your DPF is toast” codes yesterday so that’s next on the list. Extended warranty was up at 126k and I’m in ‘ol Cal-unicornia soo I’m debating jumping through some hoops to figure out how to register my JSW out of state and put her on a weight-loss plan or just bite the bullet and have my friend replace the DPF. The obvious answer (for longevity) is weight loss. Not sure if the hoops will be more of a hassle or not.

^^I always thought I'd go through the jumping through the hoops and weight loss thing, but more and more I'm thinking I'll get a DPF when the time comes. It might be a mistake, but I think I'm going to go OEM. But I do already have a CP3 HPFP!

I'm currently sorting through issues that I believe are DPF related/generated. Mileage is down, coolant temperatures are up from a normally consistent 191 degrees to 202-208 degrees, fans run constantly, regens never end, and now I am finding soot in the tail pipe. No codes or CEL but I am anticipating that to happen in another tank or two.

Seeing a pothole in my near future.

Had a NOX filter regen issue for the last few months that I finally took care of. It bought another NOX filter (didn't need it, so now I have a spare), did the exhaust flap relearn which seemed to work, but then the NOX regen light started to turn on/off during driving. Pulled codes again and discovered fan #2 wasn't spinning. Replaced the fan assembly and forced a regen via VAGCOM, did the hour+ drive in 5th gear and cruise control set to 65 mph and this finally did the trick to reset the NOX filter codes. I'll disassemble Fan #2 on the OEM assembly to see what caused it to fail. I suspect the brushes, but will keep that fan assembly in case the aftermarket one I bought from 1A Auto fails (looks like it's well made.)

heh, to be honest... I racked up 300k miles on my old 2011 JSW that I bought new. I wouldn't sweat if I do it again with the 2014 JSW, she's approaching 180k miles now. bought her on Sept 2018 at 20k miles.

Started replacement of front struts in Amanda's 2011 JSW with Bilstein B4's. What a f**king pain in the ass, between corrosion and seized $hit. I might end up doing a suspension refresh at some point as well, as I need to place an order for front swaybar links (stock link rubber bushings are shot).

##EDIT##

Finally got the right hand side strut installed. Seriously, what a massive PITA! At least the suspension feels A LOT better now.
Next up - need to order swaybar links and tie rod ends, as those are in need of replacements, and obviously the requisite alignment as a result.

The girlfriend also wants a backup camera, and from what I've been reading, that's a fairly big job, and I've never done well with trim panels, so I might outsource some of that part to a body shop.

Took Amanda's car to Ancira VW in San Antonio to get the DPF replaced. Thankfully, the particulate filter code popped up (don't ask me what code - it's on the Toughbook in my Golf), so I'm pretty sure it's covered. Also requested a specific mechanic to work on it. We talked shop in the past for almost two hours, and he's probably the one guy at that dealership I'd trust to not ugga dugga the hell out of all the bolts.

Nice - another blue JSW. Wish I had a garage like that, but cooler weather gets me more apt to work on cars. Sucks when you need to do work and it's 85+ degrees out. Look on the bright side - at least you're doing interior stuff and not changing front struts!

The Tempst Blue is definitely one of my favorite VW colors. My B5 Passat wagon is the same color. Doing a T belt job on the B5 today!

Had a check engine light come on immediately upon start up over the weekend. Turned out to be Cyl. 1's Glow Plug.

Changed it out, cleared the code with VAGCOM and all good again.
I would have replaced all 4.
They all run the same amount when starting.
Just my .02 cents. (US)

this ^^^^

yep I highly recommend because once 1 is replaced, others will decline shortly after. best to do it all and once and drive more, worry less.

Merry Christmas everyone!

as of late, I've taken whole front bumper/headlight off due to accident damage last year. I have the new set. that will wait as I am replacing CV boots on RAxles shafts. tsk on them for cheapening on the CV boots. Drivers side pissed the grease out but wasnt dry and no damage.... otherwise both axle are in great shape fortunately. doing the front hub bearings, wow. rusty. slapped the new ones on. rears are next.

then 2200 bar fuel sensor and 4 bar map and re-tune it and enjoy! (really looking forward to it)
