Wow... this thread is NOT as active as the mk4 equivalent, sadly.
What I did - started the girlfriend's timing belt at 3am when it was under 80 degrees (barely). Drained the oil and realized I have a literal s#itload of mk4 oil filters, but NO mk6 oil filters, so I had to make a quick trip to Carquest and back (30 miles round trip). Hardest part, or parts? Getting the water pump (had the original pump, and pretty much everything else original, except the belt. I both was and wasn't shocked to see the original idlers, tensioner and roller. I'm pretty sure the belt has been changed, because whomever timed it before, did a sh!tty job. Of course, it could've been slack with time, but given how far off the tensioner was, I think someone was in there that didn't know what they were doing.
I partially followed the directions on here as a refresher (first time I did the TB was when I had it removed to swap my CP3 between the car I was selling and the JSW I have now). The instructions didn't say to remove the clutch sprocket, but I did that anyways, mk4-style, and that helped make my install a lot smoother. Car runs and drives again, but sounds like crap because I still need to replace the DSG flywheel (another middle of the night job), along with a brake fluid flush, and for the sake of being a perfectionist... the PO said they changed brake pads. Front looks good, rear is mostly okay, the rotors aren't horrible, but I'm thinking of changing them. I'm a big fan of Zimmerman rotors and Akebono pads. Then I still gotta change out the stock shocks/struts with Bilstein B4 (she doesn't want the sporty ride my cars have, but wants an OEM feel).
