Bought 3 doors from a 2012 gasser JSW at a junkyard. Got my 2013 JSW declared a total loss by insurance (thanks in part to my OEM parts endorsement). The left front CV axle, outer tie rod, ball joint, rotor, swaybar link, and LCA were all destroyed, so I had to get new stuff and get an alignment to make it back to Texas (the crash was in Central California). So today, I got doors in lieu of buying door shells from the stealership. Brought a rear bumper back with me from So Cal that came from a 2014 JSW TDI (also pulled the injectors off the same). Eager to get my car back to normal working order.

My son bought this JSW in January, but it's been sitting, freshly detailed and ceramic coated, in the IDParts warehouse while he drove his MKIV through the winter. But today we did an oil and all filters change so he could take it home.

We've done countless fluid and filter services together on his and my MKIVs, but this was a first time on a MK6. Pretty easy.
You should see the timing belt on a mk6. Super easy since you don't have to pull the engine mount bracket. I haven't done one since I put in my CP3, but I just remember that (and other items) are big improvements over the mk4 we all love and treasure.

Which yard was that, out of curiosity?
The rear bumper cover came from the LKQ yard in Ontario, CA. The doors came from Wrench a Part in Austin, TX, now that I've been back from vacation for a week and a half. Then I picked up parts for my mk4 Golf yesterday from Wrench a Part in San Antonio. As luck would have it, I lost one of my bolts that unscrewed itself, that bolts the caliper bracket on my upgraded VR6 brakes to the knuckle, and a mile from the ranch. Had it happened in Austin on the highway, that would've been a major car accident.

am looking for a replacement front bumper. possibly need new headlights. drivers side showing cracking. (I wonder why this happened?)

And to think that the donor car I think had one headlight still left on it, but I didn't think to get it. Definitely no front bumper, though. Seems like those are the first things to go at junkyards.

Thanks. i was planning to check that one for doors, but it got crushed a couple days before i could make the trip. I've been noticing the past few months that BRM and ALH cars have been largely untouched by the time they get pulled. I dont know if these cars & parts are losing demand, or the junk prices are just too high now. Plus LQK hasnt had weekend sales since before 2020.

I didn't know you lived in So Cal. Sometimes they're untouched. ALHs, the first things that go are injection pumps. I try and pull them myself, because they can fetch a decent premium on ebay. Plus I like to pull injectors.

Surprised they crushed that car that quickly. I got all the parts I needed from it, though I didn't have the appropriate tool to get the HPFP sadly. CJAA cars are so infrequent in junkyards as it is. Oddly, BRMs seem to be fairly common, but probably for the usual issues - crappy/worn cams and lifters.

Last ALH i saw was a golf, AT, no body damage. I grabbed the IP 3 or 4 days after it landed. A week later i looked again, and only noticeable part missing was injector #3. They seem to roll inventory about 4 weeks. That wagen you found was there since 2/21 IIRC, so almost 6 weeks for that one. I also dont remember seeing body damage from the photos, so the HPFP could very likely have junked the whole car. CJAAs are more prevalent in calif because they didn't allow BRM sales. But still, not many. LKQ has 4 CJAA/CBEA and 1 BRM that i can see in LA + 50 miles. And one sportwagen (gas).

Oh, there was still a BRM there, and I pulled the injectors from it as well. Ha, bummer I didn't search other junkyards (or have time). Injectors and IPs are good spending cash. Smart move on your part grabbing that 11mm IP. I've picked up some almost new looking pumps from the junkyard (that were probably low mileage pumps) that ended up on my ALH fleet.

wait a minute.... they didn't ALLOW BRM cars to be sold in Commieifornia? Wow! I was born and raised there. my grandfather had 2 MB diesels, 76 240D and 1984 300SD. California didn't bother him with his cars and such. I believe CA exempt on old diesels?

No new diesel cars could be sold by dealers from 2004-2008, until the new DPF crap finally satisfied their emissions scientologists. That covered BEW and BRMs.

Smog is currently exempt on 1997 and older diesels. Because there's such a huge difference between a 97 Jetta and 98 Jetta.

PD TDIs were prohibited from new sales in states following CARB rules, including CA, NY, MA, OR, and one other I can't remember. They could be sold in those states as used cars once they had more than 7,500 miles on them. So in those states there were no new VW TDIs available for sale after 2003 until 2009.

I didn't know that (the 7500 mile rule, that is). That makes sense why I've seen them there, obviously not in droves, though.

Emissions scientologists. LOL! That reminds me of something I fed to ChatGPT earlier (not at all appropriate to share on here).

I didn't know that on 97 and below. 'course, I also learned that when I took my 1995 F-450 there years ago, it was in violation of CARB rules. I intentionally avoided all scales as a result.

Just ordered two timing belt kits from ID parts... expensive but worth the piece of mind.

Got the sportwagen about to hit 130k and along with the timing we're doing the whitbread belt guard and a CP3.

My A3 hit 10 years so it gets timing too and a whitbread guard.

A friend of mine that doesn't drive very much as he bikes to and from work. He bought it from the emissions program in 2019. Now he's buying a Rivian.
nice! rare to find in that condition and such.

I got a new windshield at Safelite, OEM replacement with VW branding on the glass! They also said the gasket was good, no worries. It sure looks better than my sandblasted original windshield that survived 197K miles as a commuter. I also have new OEM wipers. Now I can't wait until it rains to see that beautiful clean windshield! I'm retired now so it should look good for a very long time.

Spring service; oil change (AMSOIL), fuel, air and cabin air filters. This car has been a marvel of reliability and driveability. Bought in June 2020 at 84000 miles. now has 116000. Had the full belt service at my excellent dealership (Safford VW in Fredericksburg VA) earlier this year. Done early I know but I had basically done nothing other than routine home DIY till then and I wanted to baseline it.

Had a check engine light pop on this morning for a fuel metering valve issue on my CP3 pump.

Upon closer inspection it appears the sensor has a crack near where the plug meets the main body of the metering valve.

I have a replacment metering valve on its way. Fingers crossed changing it solves the issue...

For future reference, you don't need a special tool to remove it from a junker. I pulled one using channellocks to counterhold the hub (nut came off way easier than expected), and used a couple longer bolts to thread through the hub to pop that off, in lieu of a puller tool.

Received the replacement metering valve from Amazon today. Changed it in 5 minutes. Fired it up and the Check Engine Light immediately turn off!

For those with a CP3 that encounter a similar issue I ordered Fuel Metering Valve 0928400771
