That doesn't look too bad. I'd say a new bumper radiator, intercooler, and ac condenser. Probably an alignment too. Might as well panzer plate it if not already.

I'd also keep it and fix it, although if you have to buy a new bumper you may be in for a bit of a wait. I had my front bumper on my 12 replaced from deer damage in Feb-March of this year and it took about 6 weeks to get one in. Hopefully things have gotten better since then.

Ouch! Good to know. I submitted the accident report and will bring my JSW in for inspection and go from there.

Keep it. Intercooler and such are easily replaced. I have taken my intercooler out twice. Its pretty easy as long as you know what you are doing.

You can find intercooler and other parts at junkyards online.

front bumper is another story…. Tons of them got wrecked lately from darned dumb ass deers out there LOL… I am one of them from flying object on the highway.
Yeah. I'll just get the whole front core assy. I may have found a parts car. Just bad front bumper. No drivers fender or plastics.

Yep we have one in my town. Will check them out.
Was 200 or so. They do 4 wheel. And will shift the sub if you've changed to non stretch bolts. And they have to give the suspension a once over to make sure everything is tight. So the only problem with mine was they couldn't get the right rear control arm bolt loose. It was seized in the steel of the bushing. It's a bit out. But very close to spec.

Drove 60 miles to work in the bad snow storm. Made it to town just fine, only to hit a 2-ft hard plowburm that apply left going across the highway. Immediately lost boost, I got a low coolant. So I'm hoping it just tore the rubber line instead of broke the intercooler and radiator, but being everything is plastic. I just hope they don't total it. Because I'll have to buy it back and fix it again.

My wife hit a deer last week, insurance totalled it ($10.5K) and I bought it back for $1600.

Yeah I didn't have any leaking fluids or anything luckily. Biggest cost was probably those headlights so I'm surprised they totalled it. But I wouldn't be surprised if they totalled yours.
I read somewhere (I am a member of several groups) that VW is not repairing TDI's in an effort to accelerate their departure from the landscape. This could be why insurance companies are totalling vehicles more frequently. Also read that the parts supply issue is closely linked to VW's desire to get the TDI's off the road. Likely equal parts conspiracy and self-fulfilling prophecy with a dash of economics but regardless - if my JSW were totalled I would buy it back and do the work myself to keep it on the road.

Wow they are utter stupid and making us miserable with the junk boxes out there that will NEVER replace our TDI’s for reliability and fuel economy and easy to work on.

Our TDI’s will easily outlast anything on the roads nowadays CJAA’s especially that is and a serious hoot to drive especially with the DSG driving characteristics.

Yeah. I plan to fix mine as many times as possible.

I sold my '12 Golf in '15 (before Dieselgate, unfortunately), but we've now got a MKVI back in the family. After a long time looking, we found what we wanted: Manual, black interior, no sunroof. 122K on it, timing belt done, DPF and clutch replaced.

My son with his '02 Golf and '11 Sportwagen. The JSW will eventually replace the Golf, which he will continue to use on his 120 mile round trip commute until it can't do it any longer. It has 466K on it now, and I warned him it might be a while before it dies.

I brought the JSW home for a detail and some minor maintenance. It's a pleasure to drive.

yep those CJAA powered JSWs are a lot of fun and has a lot features. AC vent in the glovebox to keep your drink cold, "hidden" storage in the back behind the back seats which you could load an AR15 and ammos like I did. it fits like a glove. ammo boxes "wrapped" around the AR15 to keep it secure. being an MK5 platform, I enjoyed jacking it up at ease and put jack stands on the control arm bushing bracket with rubber covers. not like NMS Passat or 2011+ Jetta MK6.

That Golf looks to be holding up really well. Has it had a fair bit of rust repairs? My '10 is going to need a new driver fender and numerous small spot touch ups once the weather warms.

Not a lot, actually. New fenders a few years ago, and it needs rocker attention now, which is part of why he's looking for a replacement. Mechanically it's been amazing: It got a new head and turbo at 427K because the valve guides had worn enough that the escaping oil carboned up the turbo. But other than routine wear items and maintenance it just goes and goes.

I seriously love what you have done to your car! that's truly serious passion right there. 😁

LMK how you like the inserts, I have it but yet installed.

Initial Impressions (034 MKVI Dogbone Mount Upper and Lower Insert)
  1. Upon Start-Up I noticed the engine "kicked-off" more quickly and "solidly"
  2. Once in Drive(D) - Upon release of the brakes there was a slight increase of Noise & Vibration(N&V) up to around 1100 RPM which goes away above that.
  3. Shifts between Gears seem more quick and it feels as if it puts the power to the ground better without the rubber flexing as much.
  4. In Reverse(R) - The increase of N&V is non-existent

50 Mile Update (034 MKVI Dogbone Mount Upper and Lower Insert)
  • Upon Start-Up the engine "kicking-off" more quickly and "solidly" - SAME
  • Once in Drive(D) - Upon release of the brakes the slight increase of Noise & Vibration(N&V) up to around 1100 RPM has diminished slightly.

It is my hope; as the parts familiarize themselves with each other, the N&V will reduce to a point I forget the Insert is installed other than the crisper shifts and smoother power delivery.

Wait till it's cold. I had my tuner bimp my idle up. The vibration is more pronounced at idle. But I still live the insert.

I had mine in for a couple months but ended up taking it out because I didn't see any improvement and the extra vibration was annoying. Once I took it out I couldn't believe how smooth the car felt again haha. No noticable difference if shifting (manual trans) or traction when I removed it. Maybe once the actual mount gets too worn and soft I'll put the insert back in.

Ended up replacing my auxiliary fuel pump on the TDI yesterday since it was leaking from the nipple. Many people said you can just seal it and tighten it back up but I had a few accounts of people saying that they had tried that it it ended up failing so I replaced the whole thing. Pump with the bracket was only $120 from europa parts so I figured that was the easiest way to go.

Pretty simple job, took maybe an hour and that was including going through VCDS and priming the fuel system 3 times.

I was having startup issues after driving and had already replaced the lift pump but didn't think about the aux pump that my local shop had previously mentioned having a small leak. I'm sure there was a definite loss of fuel pressure or something considering I was able to unthread the nipple on the old one by hand . Atleast I have 2 new fuel pumps and I won't have to worry about those going bad anytime soon 😅.

I've been trying to do more and more as far as maintenance on my car to become more familiar with it. Having finally splurged and split the cost of a VCDS cable with my friend definitely makes life easier there.
