It wouldn't hurt to wrap foil around the wire bunch then a layer or two of black electrical tape.
For why? Not sure what good that would do. The screw doesn't leak oil from the IC. Even if it did that would be a good thing. It would keep the ic clean of oil.

If I decide to run the automatic injectors I have, am I really going to notice the difference that much with the 10mm pump?

But I am gonna make a couple calls though, see what I might be able to source locally.
Automatic nozzles are quite a bit smaller than manual. With a 10mm pump it will be quite anemic

How often do you see bad parts store alternators? I just got 2 Napa alternators back to back that charge, but have slow drains in them
My record is 5 in a row for the same car, customer was shocked that I just kept installing new ones for free until I found one that worked correctly.

I wouldn't even bat an eye at that kind of oil consumption over 5k miles (assuming 10k OCI). You can pull the lower intercooler pipe and see if you find your missing 0.3 quarts of oil.
Probably stuck there yes, I had the charge pipes off not too long ago to replace the seals etc and there were a few oz already. Currently it's fallen from just below the top mark to about 3/4s up the hash marked section of the dipstick......I know it's find but it's giving me flashbacks to how my EA824 likes to consume at least 1.5 quarts per 5k OCI.

Doesn't help that the turbo on the TDI has 321k miles on it and I am just waiting for it to blow at this point lol!

Fixed that CPS connector wiring with some butt connectors and heat shrink . Gave it a little extra length.

I noticed the original outer insulation has some kind of foil layer. Before I do the final wrap up with electrical tape, would it be worth it to throw a layer of aluminum foil around the repair area???

Also, since I'm into all this... I remember a couple people have talked about periodically draining the intercooler. To my knowledge, this has never been done. I remember seeing a post here where someone drilled a hole at the low point and put a screw in to seal it. I was thinking one of those roofing ones with the rubber seal, if I can find one short enough. But where? It seems to me in this picture and looking at the intercooler that the low point seems to be around where the Valeo logo is? 🤷🏼‍♂️ Thoughts?

I used a self tapping screw in the lowest point in the intercooler and every 2 months or so would jack up the rear left and drain around 50ml out. It seemed to reduce clogging in the inlet manifold. It worried about leaks cover the screw with a bit of tuck tape

Well I've got a set of injectors on the way. Nuje of bringing them down Monday.

With my old engine... Leave engine and tranny oil in after removal? Or drain? 🤷🏼‍♂️

I don't know about you but I would stop buying them from that store.
Even if they keep replacing it free you have to do the labor.
What would you do if it failed late at night and you were not close to home? ☹

Hei guys... I was taking off the final coolant lines around the back of the engine, the ones for the heater core.... And I noticed a discrepancy between my spare engine from the automatic and my original. The hard line under the coolant flange has an extra T just above the speed sensor... What does it plug to, or do I just cap this off somehow. I really don't want to mess with this hard line. Pic below...

I get paid for every warranty install so it doesn't matter really.....just very annoying I can't send the car home.

I must’ve nicked the front driver side cv boot when I installed the suspension. So I got a boot kit & axle nut.

I started disassembly and marked where the three nuts for the ball joint sat on the LCA. started on the middle one first with the buzz gun and SNAP the stud broke off instead. No one has a ball joint for the TT locally, so I figure I’ll just complete the job. Then I can bolt the remaining two to the LCA and just move the car because I blocked in my Expedition. Replace the ball joint next week.

Got the axle out and cut off the old boot. Started tapping on the joint to pop it off, but it wouldn’t move. So I set the vise jaws a little wider than the axle shaft. Put the outer joint up top and yanked the axle down through the vise—worked on the Jetta's axle. On the third try, the inner joint plopped onto the floor. Ugh. Grease looked cooked.

I decided to keep going with the outer joint, but it Would. Not. Budge. So I took the center of the inner joint off as well as the inner boot. Slid the outer boot on all the way down from the wrong end. Cleaned up the inner joint parts and spent 1/2 an hour struggling to get it together, and finally succeeded.

Put the inner boot on then the joint, and carried it inner joint up to put the circlip back on, feeling good. And the joint just fell apart into the boot. No axle available locally, surprise surprise.

So now I’ve ordered both the ball joint and axle, and the TT is blocking my truck, and I’ll have to drive the missus's Tiguan to work next week. Good thing she works from home.

Overnight parked, Thermal camera shows the alternator warmer than ambient
Sounds to me like bad diodes inside the alternator.
Try this:
At night when you turn the car off, disconnect the positive cable from the back of the alternator.
Use the amperage guage of a meter to measure if there is power going through.
It should be very low.
Maybe wrap the cable you took off and wrap the end with tape and check the temperature in the AM.
If it's the same temperature as the outside that would confirm it has bad diodes inside the alternator.

Today, being 90+ Fahrenheit and me having a 14 hour drive, I washed all the rads of all the vehicles. Bought proper HVAC coil cleaner for the house, used a bit of that, and some degreaser. It was due. I think some of the kroen oil guarding may have got to it. Lot of the condenser or evaporator has been bent over, if shops didn't want so much to evacuate and recharge, is get new ones

Well... I got the engine in... As I was putting the long CV shaft back in... I noticed that the inner joint on the short shaft slipped and got itself stuck between the transmission and sub frame. Any bright ideas on how to free it up without undoing a **** ton of work?

Is there enough room to stuff a scissor jack against the firewall? Couple blocks of wood and a little pressure against the block might do it.

Thanks guys!

Another related question... While I was putting the long shaft inner CV... I had initially started the bolts by hand, and went around to get it started before starting to tighten them. Things seemed fine. 4 of the 6 bolts went in great... Two (the fourth and sixth) , for some reason became harder to turn in. They didn't feel cross threaded when I started, but that's my fear as I couldn't snug them down as the effort became harder. When I noticed the resistance, I tried to back them out and try again, to no effect.

Did I inadvertently cross thread these two as I was mating up the joint to the transmission ? They felt fine on the initial go round to start things. Ugh.

Possibly. Take them out and check bolts for any thread damage. Move the CV aside and thread a good bolt into each flange hole in turn, if it binds you know where the problem is. You should be able to chase the flange threads with a tap if need be

Ooohh linky please to item on amazon!

sadly the fabric on my sunroof “door” has come loose. Gonna have to rip it off as it won’t slide back and forth any more and replace it with….something or other.
