There are just too many to list....
In the grand scheme of things, the NB's dash is not all that bad to R&R. The biggest thing is all the fragile, brittle, plastic bits and the soft touch crap, and knowing that virtually NONE of it is available anymore to replace.

When i put it in gear it Sounds like someone stuck a wrench inside it, Lost all gears. I haven't taken transmission out yet. I ended up pulling my back clearing a spot in the garage to do the work so I'll have to tear in to it later. So not sure what's busted yet.

The windshield wipers on my Touareg decided they didn't want to work, and it's been raining the last couple days, so I'm driving the Mk4 I need to get finished ready for sale... Also gotta get my mk5 ready for sale, and one of my b5s... Been too busy fixing other people's cars to fix my own.
But I've been having fun driving the mk4, Burpod 's tune makes sure of that!

I've had CV joints do that, too. Boot still intact but joint inside is toast.

One of my co-workers had a Touareg (bought off a customer). The wiper motor took a dump while it was apart to get other things fixed. We ended up getting a used one of ebay for it. Watch out for the several different versions of it.

I had that thought as well. It doesn't sound/feel like the clutch went out so I thought either internal or the cv joint took a **** on me. Once my back stops giving me trouble I'm gonna get it up in the air and asses. Luckily I have a spare trans and CVs from my golf.

I think it is probably something else on this one, the radio quit at the same time... I've got to dig into it to see what's going on.

Soft touch is terrifying, I have a 04 Phaeton W12 4 seater and I go insane every time I am in the thing because of it. Everyone gets the warning talk before being allowed into the car lol!

I installed a used new south boost gauge and pod today. I need to sort the lighting out. Where do you guys usually tap into for power and ground? Also do you guys find the gauge a little twitchy or fluttery if so what is the solution?

I ran mine with the vent pod- tapped into the dimmer light for the dash lights. ground if I remember correctly a bolt that went into the frame somewhere inside the fuse panel.

in also stuffed some balled up foam from some delivery that had been foam packed into the vac line to restrict the vac a little to avoid that dreaded buzzing.
it worked like a charm after a couple of tries.

I find connecting the boost guage to vacuum really sucks 🙃
Haha- yeah - definitely NOT the vacuum line- just the boost line.
Typing while in bed “watching a show” with annoyed somewhat angry side eye from the wifey.
(That’s my excuse 🙄)

Did a brake test on a whim when driving to the shop, got it up to 80 and slammed the brakes to make sure the ABS worked etc.

New tires/brakes etc worked adequately, car honestly has been great so far. Vastly exceeded my expectations

I am into something like that. Is a matter ov time I suspect. Once I get over the fear of the first one, I can handle the rest of the herd on my own...

The first one is always the hardest….. after that it gets easier….

I know where 2 of them are sitting up here. Both victims of a wreck. I think its a make two into one kind of thing.
Up in Minnesota? I kinda want to swap a W12 into a Touareg too... They had them overseas.

Changed the timing belt and right rad fan in the TT. Timing belt went well.

Fan not so much. There’s a big metal tube support type thing going across the bottom part of the car, right behind the fan shroud thats in the way on the bottom, and the SAI hoses and pump eats up a lot of room. So I had to use service position. One of the three (a lower one) spider screws wasn’t coming out, so I had to bend the two free arms and work/wiggle the old out. ‘‘Twas a b!tch to get the new fans studs lined up and through their holes in the spider because they were at angles to each other. And said large tubular structure was very in the way when I was unplugging/plugging in the connector under the FCM.

Anyone know what that tubular cross piece is? Never seen one on a golf or Jetta.

Steve,
I see posts about blend doors causing no heat, but will it cause poor air conditioning? My 01' NB AC is pretty weak these days and I've got foam in the vents.
Yeah the A/C will be weak , there are other causes for it to be weak too, the missing foam doesn’t help.

If the charge isn’t correct.

If one or both fans are inop.

What are the pressures with the a/c runningIf close to each other then the RCV
( refrigerant control valve ) could be starting to fail. That can be changed it’s fairly easy.

What’s the condition of the cabin air filter?

Is the condenser plugged with dirt and bugs?

What’s the evaporator look like?
Just some issues I’ve run across ….
Hope this helps.

Charge is suspect, don't know about the RCV as I haven't had gauges on this. Fans, condenser, cabin filter okay. Not sure when I'll get to it but going to borrow a refrigerant reclaim machine and extract then refill by weight and see if it improves. I should reseal the flaps though.

I've seen someone cut the box to access the flaps. Might go that route.

Mk.4's and the Cummins
gages are the easy way to find the bad RCV. inlet will be about the same as exit pressure, no where near enough high pressure. It is pretty easy to replace, just make sure the nut is torqued properly and the valve plate has not rotated...or been potato chipped by leaning on it improperly.
