Damage = fixing back to previous condition!
Right? I had a guy at work back into my car, needed to replace the entire front end - hood, lights, grill, bumper. I had a two tone thing going on - the dark grey fenders and hood, but the guy I got my parts from had everything in silver, it brought the car back to spec. (y)

Damn GB…… sorry to see and hear that. Glad you’re ok though.
Its fine. More frustrating then anything. Thought I was a better driver than this lol. Dumb ice.

Yep, that's what I'll be going for. Unfortunately all I have is a red bumper. So now It'll look weird with a black hood. Like a dog nose. Oh well.

Finally got around to fixing the window regulator in my daughter’s golf.
id ordered metal window hangers from Ali Express - they just got here.
I was hoping that it was going to be straight forward but - afraid not.
Her cable spool thing opposite the motor was a frayed knot too! So I thought i would use the donor wagon window spool and motor, but turns out the Jetta windows are slightly larger - so the cables longer.
so i ripped over to the wreckers with 10 minutes before they closed for lunch and pulled an inner door seal off of a golf gti.
turns out it has metal hangers - and so I just swapped that one it and I think inadvertently upgraded one of her speakers !
Her window works perfectly now.
Tomorrow I’ll install her Atlas skid plate.

Tother day the intermittent implausible cam sensor was replaced with a fancy new one from idparts, is the now crumbled rubber gromit thingy the sensor cable passes thru absolutely necessary? Also got some new wallyworld wipers and the longer one right out of the box had a mfgr defect that went undetected till first use, it put a constant streak right in the drivers center of vision! It was replaced on my recent great winter road trip by a michelin branded one from costco - make sure you pull the white plastic tabs off the ends of the rubber blades before install! Wallyworld was good enough to refund the borked one however.

If that's a bew I've been running a hella branded one in mine from rock auto, same unit they sell at oreilly for a lot more, and you only hear it at startup.

You should be able to buy a new rubber grommet from a parts store dorman or someone else should likely make one.

I’m guessing this was a rear window? Golf and Jetta have identical front doors.
You’re absolutely right - I had a Jetta front disassembled - but measured the golf speaker side window regulator rail to the Jetta door handle one by accident - they are half inch different - but yeah I stand corrected- that’s the same on both Jetta and golf.
good to know going forward

Changed the youngest daughters fuel filter before we get down into the negative and single digits here in NJ with a good does of Power service.

Bumpedy timing up a bit on the pump, and while pushing down on the TB next to the idler roller I noticed a sound. I spun it over by hand and yep starting to make bad bearing noises. Its definitely not smooth anymore. Has a bit of a gritty feel/sound as it rolls. Guess I'll be doing a TB this summer which is to bad because I have 18k miles left on that TB kit (new in 2020). I was hoping to make it about another year. I typically plan to change them 5-8k early or whenever its convenient.
I could probably take the roller from my used kit thats out of the jetta as that has 30k left and was 8yrs old. I could install that and get by longer probably. Being that its just a bearing I'm sure it would be fine, but not really worth it if any of the other bearings are going as well. Easier to do a TB now then a new headgasket and head from the shelf later.

Last week another member mentioned mold in the car. It was not too cold, I wiped down the surfaces I could see with vinegar, put some in a scary bottle and listed most surfaces, even sprayed into the vents. Left a big puddle of it in the rubber mat, then started the car and ran the heater on full speed and recirculate to really get the mist everywhere. The girlfriend has an electronic mister she bought for disinfecting covid, has some antibacterial stuff inside, every 15 minutes for an hour i sprayed it in the car. I love north of Lake Erie it gets humid here, won't hurt.

If you're talking about that idler between the IP and cam sprockets, you can just take it out and put a new one in without messing with the tensioner and all of that, right?
If not I'll make it happen. I can push down and take off enough tension on the belt that it should be easy.

Ran out to grab a few things Saturday morning with the jetta. Came home and I could have sworn I heard a small air leak. Did the cursory once over listening real closely didn't hear anything. Tires all looked fine. Came out this morning to clear all the snow off the vehicles to move them, and noticed the driver rear tire was low on air. Begrudgingly pulled the tire off and took it in the shop. Found a tiny little screw in between the tread... one plug later and it's back on the car.

It's almost abuse but I started it
Mine hasn't been appreciating the temperatures being in the teens (°F) so I'd hate to see how it'd behave in weather just below 0°F.

I actually have a replacement starter sitting in the back seat of my Jetta that was supposed to be installed before the current cold snap hit, but...

-1*f, car fired up more or less like normal. Only difference is it wasn't fully warmed up till I got to work. Mostly down hill going into town. It'll get a better work out in the way home, I have a few stops to make in town before heading up the mountain back home.
