I think it’s a good kit, I’m just trying to decide if I want a lift or not. We are waiting to close on a 17 acre piece of raw land in Texas so leaning toward lifting or just buying a work truck for it.
I bought a (far smaller) place in rural Oklahoma and went with the beater work truck option.
An added bonus is that I now have an easy way to haul spare parts for the Jetta if I find them on a wrecking yard crawl, and I don't abuse the Jetta by loading stupid stuff on the roof rack any more. Awful fuel economy though.

Oklahoma is a great state to be in, how’s your land doing? Ya I think you definitely made the smart decision and is likely the route I will take…it only makes sense for all the reasons you pointed out.

Finally got the HVAC box out of my DD….. what a pain. Only have been able to work on it a couple of hours at a time outside in the driveway.
Heater core is definitely leaking with a puddle at the bottom and a bunch of foam at the bottom too.

I've been having lower FE, so I took a log for Burpod. My car was overboosting by about 40-90 mBar. No codes for it or limp mode, but it might be the cause of the FE issue.

So i checked my VNT today by disconnecting the line from the N75 and putting my Mityvac on it. I felt the end of the actuator rod with my left hand as I pumped with my right.

As I pumped, the rod started pulling down smoothly for a bit. Then it would seem to hang up a little then ”jump” a bit. It does this twice, then moves fine to a stop.

When I release vacuum, it moves smoothly all the way back up. It behaves like this every time I did it (about ten cycles).

One more thing to note—it starts moving around 5-6” and stops at about 20”. The range seems normal, so I am guessing it might be an issue with the gauge? It’s from Harbor Freight, but branded Mityvac. The whitish one, not the small brake bleeder vac pump.

Well split the HVAC box at the clips and removed and cleaned the housing that the heater core sits in , I had already done the blend doors with the plug kit that Alphasenior was selling before he passed. Installed heater core, mated the boxes and reinstalled HVAc box back into the car and evacuated the A/C system….. got dark so stopped for the night…..

What would anyone do with a 500K mile car? Put new tires on it!

I realized my Michelin Cross Climates didn't have enough tread to make it through the winter.
Got some Nokian WRG5s. I had these tires on my Golf briefly (gave them to my son) and they are quiet, fairly grippy, and OK in the snow.

Put 1/2 quart in her. It’s been about 1600 miles since the last oil change. No leaks so she’s using it. Sadly no difference from Rotella T6. I had thought it was that since she lived on TDT for the first 175k or so. Only 285k now. (My mechanic in Fort Collins likes to use other oils.)
Of course that’s only a quarter every 3200 miles so I’m being picky. After deciding to upgrade from stock she had to suffer through two bad vnt17s, then snapped the shaft on a used vnt15, but now all is well and happy and going strong on the gtd1752vrk.

My new in tank PD pump puts out somewhere above 16psi. Might explain the strange noises, and why she keeps blowing off fuel lines

Edit; it was the thermostat T. New Napa unit. Bypassed HP and pressure was still high, bypassed T and pressure is at 5 psi

Edit edit, that doesn't make sense, should never go that high even with a bad T valve. It is just what finished it off. Still need a way to limit pressure in tank

Try to verify the type by the part number on the sending unit/ pump.

Bought a USP braided clutch line for DSEL today. The clutch doesn't stay at the floor, but it feels way too easy to push down. By comparison, DSOL has some resistance to it. Both cars have fairly recent clutch/flywheels in them (DSOL is a little older, by maybe 20K miles or so). I'm not sure if it's a bad seal, but hoping it fixes my problem (of course, after bleeding it after replacing the line).

Then, I need to pull my midpipe (between where the cat and muffler would be). Crappy buzzken construction - it has a reducer bushing, of which the welds broke, so I need to fix that, so my pipe doesn't keep detaching from the coupler/sleeve/whatever the hell it's called.

Replaced the stock worn out lift struts on the wagon...big difference as it dont fall on my head anymore...front hood is next.

I bought a new set for the girlfriend's beetle. Must have been for the one with a spoiler because it is just too hard to close. So now one new in her car and one new in mine, they both stay up and close easy enough. I hope the hatch won't twist from stronger shock on one side

These feel good so far, and I would say its normal closing pressure and $20 a piece on amazon works for me. Not familiar with the beetles, is the hatch metal on them?

I bought a cheap set on Amazon and the end clip didn't grip the ball on the hatch properly. I thought they were working fine, but a couple of weeks later my better half opened the hatch, the strut fell and smashed the taillight lens - so I had to buy OE quality struts and a taillight

My little side project of Hella HID ballast upgrade/rebuild went sideways. The driver side headlamp has been getting dimmer for a while and swapping bulbs had no improvement, so I decided to do the rebuild/improvement on the ignitor/ballast. I know what needs to be done, but was not prepared for how much of a pain de-soldering was and GLASS circuit boards.

I got the MOSFETs installed and was working on removing the small circuit board to install the resistor. Almost home getting the pins de-soldered and pulled out when the board cracked. Finished getting it out and found a dozen micro circuits on the board. Not worth the hassle to rebuild or repair at this point. And not in the mood to bread board a replacement.

So ebay a couple cheap replacement ignitor/ballasts.

After months of having no inserts in the rear door panels, I finally got around to putting new cloth on and reinstalling them. I finally gave up on wanting to get them perfect so their are some ripples I just didn't bother to spend a heck of a lot of time on getting perfect (The car is a beater to begin with) but it looks much better than the old cloth falling off. Time to tackle the front two...

Hei folks!

Just got back from last night from a 12 day US road trip. Victoria BC to Roswell, then to Vegas and back to Victoria. Did just shy of 8000 km in the ALH Wagon. The driver's side E-brake cable pooched itself and started dragging the inner brake pad necessitating a parking lot brake job in Twin Falls, Idaho. Fortunately, O'Reilly's in Boise and Twin Falls helped save the day and we got back on the road in a couple of hours.

One thing I REALLY love about the US is the MUCH faster highway speeds. We were pulling at least 70 MPH and did a good portion at between 80-85 MPH. We went through 450.25L of fuel, average FE was 5.667L/100km, best FE was 4.222 (mostly due to some big downhills in Oregon), and worst 6.213. We were carrying 3 grown people and a chocolate lab, plus luggage. Pretty impressive in my opinion.

Fuel Prices were kinda all over. Moab, UT was the most expensive at $3.92/gal. Gallup, NM was cheapest at $3.15. What gets me in the price variations even in the same city. Sometimes as much as 30 cents between stations, which is wild to me. We even saw some isolated ones like the "Last Stop" in Nevada that was over $5/gal.

We even set off an alarm at a back gate at Area 51. We didn't stick around to find out if anyone was gonna come out. ;)

Car is now just over 725K km. (y)

Sounds like a fun trip! $3.92 isn't bad at all. Thats about average here in CT.

When I towed my Jeep out west, I made the mistake of not stopping for gas in Moab. Ended up stopping at this Weird Gas Station 30 min north of Moab off of Route 70 and Paid over $5.00 a gallon for gas....
Alien jerky? Lol
