What did you do to your MKIV today?

The industrial solution to bearing wear is small microphones. As soon as raceway fatigue sets in and the pitting begins, it is easy to hear( at that level ). This is long before any possible increase in clearance happens, or it becomes audible. It is usually enough warning to schedule the replacement.

Fun idea, got a higher mileage wheel bearing, loosen it off and re-torque it as per specs. I know a few that acted like new. Won't work every time though

Could someone explain what a ventectomy is ?
Remove the vent at top of the filler, so that you can 100% fill tank. Usually it is 80% to allow for expansion. With diesel you can go 98% full and it's fine. I have 9 miles to hole after last gas station, I fill right up to just below the vent. I can go an extra hundred miles I think

I have found with my '03 Wagon, I can get about 12 L after the pump stops. I fill to the top of the neck, then vent and hold until its full to the neck again. Based on my FE average right now, I'd get at least 200 km (120 mi) out of that.

Tother day got bry to install a few charge pipe o rings I got on ebay;
Dunno if these are any good compared to oem so taking one for the team, seem fine so far with a hundred miles on them under artic conditions, the old ones were intact but coated in oil, guess they were a bit loose.

Then attention was turned to the new resistor pack for the ac blower motor. Popped it in along with revealing some newly broken German plastic tabs (fing mkiv plastic!) and wondered if the issue where it only ran on medium and high speed would be resolved with a simple resistor pack or the rusty connector would have to go too. Repair was a success, all speeds are now supported by the blower, oddly enough the German made 98 bug blower motor is one of the better ones on hand from far newer vws. We raided a salvage yard of mkiv blower motors a few years ago (sorry everyone else!) and took their entire stock, sadly some weren't worth the effort but a few work just fine.

Yesterday, actually, new oil and oil filter, along with fuel, air, and cabin filters in IBW, because this happened:

This car just keeps going and going. As pleasant to drive now as when I bought it 22 years ago. Maybe better!
Congrats! Also, spiffy grille block off you've got there!

Had about 30ish small parking lot dings removed, added 33% ceramic window tint (mainly for the insane Texas heat in the summer), added new lights, bug shield and cleaned out the dreaded front fenders. Yikes, Im genuinely surprised these haven’t rusted out.

How many people would be interested? I may know a guy. If we could get enough people interested I could maybe see if I could get a batch whipped up
If pricing were comparable I would take one, possibly a second one for a buddy.

Caught the first gear getter bushing starting to walk out again, super glued and hopefully won't have to push it back in again

Yep, had to do the same thing with mine. No issues since.
Ha, nothing like sitting at a red light then trying to start out in 3rd to get out of the intersection. Great bushing, fits great, installed 6 months ago and only wiggled loose when it started getting cold.

Is that what's making it hard to intermittently go into first/reverse and sometimes hard to find 3rd from 2nd? Or do I have other issues too? I have adjusted the shifter cables and had success for a few days but always gets worse. I planned to replace my shifter with a short throw and new bushings anyways and replace the broken shift knob...

Could be/often is. If you pop the shifter boot up you can look at the components and see where there's extra slop, the big ball might benefit from shimming with paper or cardstock underneath.
The dieselgeek bushing kit tightened things up a LOT

More than I need, less than I want

Donna’s has done that twice now, I was thinking of wrapping Teflon tape or something similar around it. Maybe I’ll try caulk, I don’t really want to attach it permanently. Comforting to know I’m not the only one that has happened to.

I used some quick dry epoxy on mine. Popped out this past summer, made me double guess if I ever had it installed correctly.

10K. I've always followed the manufacturer's recommendation.

When I was doing track days with it I changed it more often because I was running 15w50 on the track and I didn't want to leave that in the car for daily driving.
