You guys try to open the space to the article, let the roof warm up so the snow partially melts and slides down? Or take a risk with snow load?
We have a freshly painted steel roof, so with the temperature around freezing most of it slid off onto the deck. I was worried about snow load on the deck (plus we couldn't see out) so that got shovelled a few days ago.

This is getting silly, it's been snowing for two weeks. There is a MK4 under there...
Hey now your supposed to be sharing the snow. Stop taking it all for yourself:D. My mk4 has hardly seen snow in 2 years, and our snowmobiles are going to start rotting if they don't get some use!

You can have it all :) It's no use to us, we can't open any snowmobile trails because there's no frost in the ground and none of the wet spots are frozen

Snow is such a blast....until it isn't. 🫤
As for me: replaced the dogbone mount - fixed that annoying "growl" under heavy acceleration. :)

If that fails to do the trick- you could try using sound waves - just a small Bluetooth speaker with a never ending playlist of grateful dead concerts under the hood - that would surely drive them away- might attract other undesirables though 😬
As an aside people round these parts use a local rock station on 24/7 to deter coyotes and will also drive out raccoons and other critters that have taken residence in crawl spaces or attics.

Tother day me and Sambo, my partner in vw crime, replaced the blower motor in the golf as it had been acting a fool on high setting. As we got it out we also looked at the resistor pack, OH EM GEE was that thing rusty! Every exposed bit of metal on it, including the thermistor or whatever the little cylindrical thingy at the one end of the pack is was looking like is sat in salt water for ages, there was even a rust colored water level line on the plastic case. New pack ordered. Gentlemen, check your resistor packs! The bad blower was a valeo or similar brand they put in Brazillian vws by the bazillions as was the encrusted resistor pack, the replacement blower was a German made one nicked from a bug. Oddly enough, with the old rusted resistor pack reinstalled the replacement blower for some reason only works in 2nd and 4th gear, 1st and 3rd are inop.

Where did the donor head come from and was it decked before installation? And did his block have 1 or 2 dowel pins and lastly which gasket did you use?

I've got a head swap coming up soon and want to compare notes.
The friend procured a complete donor motor and decided to do a head swap instead of a complete engine replacement. The donor head looked good and received some minor cleaning. The ports appeared to have only minor carbon/soot accumulation, so no cleaning of the ports was done. Same thing with the old block. Only minor cleaning of the mating surface was done. He obtained the new head gasket and I do not recall the brand. The block had 2 dowels. Both of them, the original and donor.

I suppose we are taking a chance in not hauling the head and block to a shop to positively flatten both mating services, but if we were willing to do that, we may as well have just swapped the two engines. As it is, time will tell if/when the head gasket fails.

Cheers,

PH

There are just too many to list....
The real sad thing is, I've paraded probably 100+ EA888 VAG products to the scrapper over the years due to failed engines, and VAG paraded far more CJAAs, etc. to the scrapper for some lame draconian NOx limit BS. We could have had our hearts' context worth of repowered CR VAG stuff here. Not just Tiguans, but Eos, B6 Passats, CCs, TTs, all the longitudinal Audis running some form of EA888 (these would have required some bits from Europe).

I would kinda love to gently push these garbage engines down into a melting pot... And then put an alh in its place, as a two door convertible EOS with a manual and an alh would be kinda nice if I might say so myself. 😁 This one came in with a p0321 and p0322 and coolant in the crank sensor wires... The water pump was leaking, but the customer had declined repairs a few weeks back.

I ordered some Archoil 6500 recently. I put a double "power boost" dose of 120 ml in on Saturday and went for a drive yesterday. Honestly, on the hill climbs, she seemed to have a little more get up and go than usual. I'm doing another big dose when I fill it next. Gonna splurge the extra bit on the V-Power Diesel before I leave on my US road trip next week. Then going to run it with the regular dosing during the trip.

Will report results back when I've used it up.

I was kicking around the TDI Tiguan idea a while back, but family and funds got in the way. If I end up with another donor engine I might try again.

Was back in the beetle driving it today after a couple weeks of the wife driving it. Wheel bearing noise is almost obsolete. Like a 3yr old if the noise disappears thats no good. I swapped in the new bearing and all is good. Decided to see how much wobble was in the old bearing and really wasn't any, so I guess I had some time left. Its been howling since june tho so it was about time, plus I don't need my wife not wanting to drive my favorite vehicles (aka tdi).

Bearing failures won't show themselves outside of the vehicle or housing unless they are totally blown. Pressing in a bearing brings in the tolerances of the system to where it needs to be (between the races and bearings) since it's a press fit. Unloading and loading the bearing on the vehicle will tell the tale, but it's unlikely you can reproduce that outside of the car because you can't load and unload it in the same manner

The industrial solution to bearing wear is small microphones. As soon as raceway fatigue sets in and the pitting begins, it is easy to hear( at that level ). This is long before any possible increase in clearance happens, or it becomes audible. It is usually enough warning to schedule the replacement.

Got a paper Bentley from a user on here yesterday. Very nice. It's 99-02, and mine's an 03, but only real difference I know of is the glow plug harness.
There's other small changes, like the pins for the instrument cluster are different on the 03. Same for the connector on injector #3. Little subtle changes, but otherwise, the same as a 2002, so you'll be fine with those manuals. I'm always looking in mine for torque specs when I'm replacing or repairing something.

Original fuel pump finally started weeping, so ordered the full kit and DG double ended socket. Glad to find that there are super online videos on the general process for this on-car servicing of the pump . . . pretty close to the final straw there once I smelled fuel.

Then I've got to find a mechanic to sort out transmission output shaft seals near Charlotte NC, and I'm doubling down for a while on another 2-5 years. It's just too fun and efficient of a commuter car!
Completed the upper and lower IQ seal replacement successfully (lower main pump o-ring isn't an issue yet), successfully, and back running and idling perfectly after the tiniest of hammer mods. Love the DieselGeek Registration markers trick, great video guys, thank you for the comprehensive kit!

Took apart my kids golf front door to check the scene with her window falling down.
Watched a couple vids - and I had my fingers crossed it had just come off the track from her trying to lower the window while frozen.
Unfortunately it was broken window holder clips and so off came the door seal too.
I trudged through the snow to my donor parts car to take apart the driver door with the hopes that I could snag some replacement pieces but both her golf and the 2.0 Jetta parts car had the same one (of the two) clips broken !
https://flic.kr/p/2qB4NUp Damn
So now I’ll order the metal replacement clips from aliexpress for 18$ CAD.
