I had the coolant hose between the head and the vent line to the reservoir do just that, earlier this year.

The rubber in the hoses is definitely getting a bit tired and breaking down.
Similar here, mine broke right off the steel hard pipe (crack pipe for those vr6 owners) near the block. This is the hose that comes from the coolant bulb. I cut about an inch off and reattached it. Hopefully lasts.

I installed a Panzer plate on my '02 Jetta manual swap car. 7-7/8" x 1.25" dia AL round stock doing duty for the usual front mounts. Screwed into RivNuts only using the front most set of holes in the frame. That pup also got a new dogbone lower mount. The drivetrain would wind up and relax in a most improper fashion due to wear on the soft bits. The new one cured it completely. And it is now protected mostly from 'stuff in the road' now.

I need to get one on my wife's Jetta before winter. The original owner laid several gouges to the oil pan on debris and I would like for it to not end up worse.

Do it! I love mine. Saved my car once when I hit a frozen chicken in the road.

Ya, bolts on the car if you have all the hardware pre installed lol.

A frozen chicken?😂

2 of my 4 have them already, i hit a huge raccoon a week ago, cracked my bumper, lost then ran over the bumper vents, broke the lock carrier. All sorts of damage, sucks. Luckily i had the panzer plate or im sure it would have been worse. One of those one in a million situations where it ran out with a second to react and a car in the on coming lane.

Yes it was a full chicken in a walmart bag middle of Febuary. Didn't realize the bag had something in it till after I heard it banging multiple points under my car before getting spit out the back. I sat there praying for the first minute that I didn't just smash a fuel line. Driving in silence waiting for the car to die.
I also once pulled up to a 4' x 2' (H x w) chunk of ice on a county road that fell out of a truck I assume. That would have been a bad day! Have a picture somewhere. It came up to the window in my bug.

I had what at the time I suspected as the worlds fattest raccoon run out directly at the car just around dusk one day as the Jetta motored down the hiway. Hit it and it tore off some plastic bits, but what startled me was the size of the coon. Later found out there's a virus they get that can literally fill their skin with air/gas that makes them inflate like a football! Maybe he was trying to off himself from pain or something.

Very interesting! Around here in the midwest they eat so much corn and soy that they grow to 35-40lbs as if it's normal. Years ago a local taxidermist told me he had stuffed a few 40-45 pounders in his lifetime.

My better half complained her wagon was throwing an overboost code and limp mode, but only when cruising at highway speed. No limp mode when she gave it an Italian tune up, but it didn't help either.

It has an OMI so you can't really see the actuator from up top, so I put it on ramps and took the skid plate off to run the VCDS boost control test. Actuator was not fully returning to the no boost position, turns out the circlip was missing and the rod was at an angle and jamming against the turbo, preventing it from going all the way up.

It was guutnstuck so I had to unbolt the actuator to get the rod back in position, then rummage through all my junk drawers looking for a suitable circlip. No luck so I made one from a scrap of steel, tested it on a spare turbo and it seemed like it might work.

Predictably, I dropped the macgyver clip trying to install it. It fell on the top of the subframe so I reached up to find it by feel - and came up with the original circlip! What are the odds?!

The original circlip didn't fit tightly, probably why it fell off, but seems to be secure after a little bending.

Still need to put front bumper on and figure out the door wiring, the drivers window doesn't go up or down and speaker doesn't work. I would love a new harness.

Meantime, new android head unit. The heater controls don't want to work/bend my way

In a pinch you can also use a bread twisty tie I have learned. Worked good to get me where I needed to go till I could get a circlip.

If you haven't checked already it's very likely to be the door accordion area. Super common on these cars as they age. I just rewire the section that goes through the door for all the wires that are failing.

There are just too many to list....
I smacked a raccoon at 80+ this morning.... UGH... just plastic stuff broke, easily fixed, but it managed to knock the left lower radiator mount out, and I cannot get it to go back in without taking stuff apart. Dangit...

Yes I will likely just pull the harness out and redo everything wire for wire. Need to find my crimping tool I headed last week seems to have gone into a black hole and disappeared

Sure looks like a real cat to me, not an Android one. Have you been dreaming of electric cats? 😁

Caution-the inexpensive crimp tools are not very good.

Klein tools. I'm more worried about the butt connectors, if I knew what the VW connectors are called I might pick up a pack of 50 and start right from the plug

(I know some of you are giggling because in the same paragraph you read the word butt and plug)

What is this knocking sound I’m hearing from the tailpipe?
Sorry I must have covered the mic a bit but you can still hear ok.

why does it need a new cylinder head if it is running?
It's pushing combustion gases into the coolant when boosting over 12psi. Spent time looking for a machine shop around me that knows what to do with these heads and nobody gave me any confidence. Franko6 is backed up with work for over a month and I don't want to be down that long.

Put in a mount for the guages th@burpod hooked up, the plastic connectors he used made it very easy to disconnect and reconnect the wires to the guages while installing the new trim panel from Modur1. Thanks!
Its as nice of a piece as you would expect for the $, solid plastic and a precision fit, everything except I haven't been able to snap it into place below the cluster like the old piece did, which might be from where the wires pass thru, but it's staying put so far.. guages fit very well and only needed one wrap with masking tape to hold firm, the leatherette looks Much better than the one it replaced
