Random stupid question about the Mk4 Golf trunk... it seems like I should be able to use the trunk handle to open the trunk when the car is unlocked, but in reality I have to either use the trunk release switch or the key fob, then I can use the handle to open it. Working as intended or am I missing something?
Working as designed. A bit annoying, I know. But that's how you do it.

I'm driving the girlfriend's beetle and I realized the speedometer is out according to GPS, dadh showing 126 but I'm only going 117. Don't worry that's not miles per hour, this is canada, so it's like beaver per donuts or something
Normal, most cars do this.

Umm no, a 9km/h difference is not “normal”. Maybe up to 5km/h, I’ve seen that on several vehicles including my Jetta, but never more than 5 unless tire size has been changed.
(I believe some manufacturers allow a slightly faster-reading speedometer as an “err on the side of caution” sort of thing, better to have it reading a bit fast than have everyone speeding without knowing it.)

@norbert77 what size tires does the car have?

Yep. That's how mine was too. I got Matt at Cascade German @Matt-98AHU to change something so when I unlock the cart, all 4 doors and the trunk unlock.
If you press unlock twice does the trunk unlock too? I can't remember ever trying this before.

Maybe this might help. https://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/cars/vwmkIV.html

That seems like a bad idea - lock the car but the hatch stays unlocked....? Not what I'd want.

There is a way (either VDS-PRO if you have a DOS6.22 machine :D ), or @gmenounos's kw1281test command-line app to edit the CCM (Module46) to unlock hatch in synchrony with the doors. So, doors unlocked = hatch unlocked (open with handle); doors locks = hatch locked.

Yup. A big gripe of mine, drove me nuts. @Nuje he was saying opening it should be okay with the doors unlocked, not permanently unlocked. I never lock my car, so I almost just took the mechanism off, but then when I do go to the city... needless to say I did not do that. I do not have a computer or the knowhow to reprogramme mine, so I re wired it. It is a more permanent way to do it, but not that difficult, I enjoyed it. It makes me smile every time I use it. I just needed a 2-piece charging cord and some electrical tape. If you care to see, I could re post the how to I used. It seems the coding is simpler than that, but not to me.

Well, The slow fuel leaks I have on the upper right fuel line connection on the injection pump and at the crush washers on the quantity adjuster cover piece are becoming more noticeable while driving so I guess its time to take a look. Gonna grab new copper washers. Any suggestions on the fuel line? Anything I can put on the threads or should I be souring new fuel lines? I guess I could try fuelly removing, cleaning it up, and reattching as I never got around to that.

If you check you'll also find the speedometer and odometer aren't in sync. On my car the odometer was correct with stock tires, with larger tires the speedometer is correct. So I end up using a multiplier for calculating miles traveled when checking fuel usage

I coded mine with the KW1281test software. From the factory you have to pull that button every single time, but after changing the coding, it stayed unlocked with the doors. The best mod ever!

Noticed that the "controlled" (as opposed to auto full) raising/lowering of the front passenger window started not working most of the time from the driver's door switch.

Going to test the pax switch, but I'm suspecting the contacts are dirty.

Yesterday I jumped in the beetle and fired it up. Low coolant light came on. Sure enough she was darn near empty. Never had this before. I checked for leaks and found nothing, drove it home and nothing. I am really hoping this isn't a boost related headgasket issue. I'm only pushing 22psi which shouldn't have caused this so I'm not really sure whats going on. I checked all the usual places for leaks, so at this point the only place I can think of is internal. The car doesn't have am egr, so that made leak detection easier.

happened to me on my 99.5 Jetta. Ended up that the water pump bearing had...gone to better places... and luckily didn't take out my timing belt. not sure how it didn't leave puddles of coolant everywhere but worth a check before assuming the worst.

My hidden leak has been the connections to the heater core a couple times over the years.

Slow leak that only shows up under pressure, and I only found by accident when I saw a tiny bit of coolant over the connector before it ran down the heat shield on the firewall.

Oh, Duh! Thank you man! I totally forgot about the heater core. Yes I'd bet thats where its leaked out over the last year. Its only been about a cup or two.
Although I just turned on my heater, amd don't smell coolant, but whatever. My last beetle would do this, but I've never had to add coolant to this beetle.

Logged coolant temps in vcds, and the temp control was fabulous. So at this point if its headgasket its not worth thinking about. Highest temp I saw was 207f on a pull. Otherwise for most of the spirited driving it stayed below 205f. Idling for 5 minutes it did hit 210f, but then it started dropping.

Yeah I’d be looking for the telltale signs of dried coolant somewhere… also check above the coolant temp sensor that small coolant line coming out from the head….. I had the clamp cut into that hose and start a small leak.

I pulled my leaky fuel injector hard line. Looks like there is some slight damage to the flared part on the injector side. I imagine its no longer getting a perfect seal. I guess I need to source out new hard lines.

I would crank it tight and loosen it twice maybe it seals

You could try and lightly sand it to see if it seals up nicely. I have hard lines if wanted.

I guess I jumped the gun a bit. I had tried loosening and reitgheting while it was installed to no avail. After posting I cleaned everything up, reinstalled the line, fired it up for a bit and no leaks. So I'm happy that worked out.

I did notice this connecter on the coolant glow plug had snapped off. I guess thats next on the list.

How are you measuring 22psi? I have a Ultragauge for my readout and max at 22 something PSI but was told that's the highest with the stock MAP and therefore I'm likely much higher.

I'm having head lift/ head gasket blowby if I go above 14 psi.

You have a junk head gasket, and more then likely stretched head bolts. Hopefully you're planning on fixing it. You're not doing the head or block any favors driving it like that. Surface wear will increase 10 fold, let alone the possibility of filling a cylinder with coolant increases with every stressful event.
Tune and turbo dependant, 22 psi isn't too high. I'm running a 28 psi tune, no maf, 3 bar map sensor. No head gasket issues.
