Yup, mine has been missing ever since I had to remove the vac pump for the second timeOh - that is a GOOD idea; definitely doing that next time I'm futzing around there.

I have a similar thing with my vnt15. Found one boost leak and that helped. But still nothing. I had a really good look. I figure my vanes were a little sticky and they finally let loose for good. I guess we will find out when I do my bigger turbo down the roadMaybe it's just the bv39 doing it's thing but sure sounds like a whistling boost leak when spooling, especially noticable when next to a wall or in a tunnel.
Darn newbiesToday marks a year and a day with my mk4 ALH.
The real culprit is the metal of the case is corroding and expanding inside that "tube" where the bushings & the pin for that relay lever live. IDParts has new bushings. Get the old ones out, and clean up that hole with a wire bristle brush plumbers use. I actually found a drill bit that fit snugly in there and used that (by hand) as well. Coat the bore with a little grease to slow down new corrosion, install new bushings, and you're golden.Greetings…
So my shifter would bind from left to right, not freely move back to center position, making it sort of difficult to shift correctly. But this would only happen once it warmed up.
After research I removed the relay lever on top of trans shift tower. Sticky to remove but pulled it out. Bushings stayed in. Sanded the shaft alot till it moved freely in place. Clean, lube with Mobil1 snthetic grease. Reassemble. and it feels like new. Took me a little over an hour.
Just thought I would pass the info along in case anybody has the same problem.
checked the bushings in the shifter in the car itself and everything looks good.

Fine threads hold more torque.![]()
Pulled the intake manifold and one bolt took some threads with it![]()
In an attempt to retorque the fastener, added a few strands of aluminum wire into the hole before inserting the manifold bolt. Was able to get it fairly snug (5ft-lbs-ish) and the other bolts held tight so hopefully no leaks.
Thinking of tapping the head for a 3/8 bolt with coarser threads and cranking it in
I've had my Golf for slightly more than 21 years. Just needs a muffler...Almost 20yrs since I bought my first ALH - a 2000 that lasted just a couple years due to my naïveté about black ice....that it could/would form on some bridges while (a) no frost on approaching pavement; and (b) ambient air temp in the 2-3°C (35-40°F) range.

Me too, sadly. My brand new 2000 Tornado Red ALH also died on black ice during a long cross-country trip while in West Virginia in the middle of the night. That was also the night I learned how safe these cars are because my car hit the concrete median front/back/front again before coming to a stop. I had that car for 7 years, and I'd probably have used that one as my long-term project if it hadn't died.Almost 20yrs since I bought my first ALH - a 2000 that lasted just a couple years due to my naïveté about black ice....that it could/would form on some bridges while (a) no frost on approaching pavement; and (b) ambient air temp in the 2-3°C (35-40°F) range.

lol, i was wondering when you were going to try the different versions hidden on there...Ended up trying different codings on the last tune @burpod sent me. Holy f**king $#!t - the car is super responsive, even at lower RPMs while the turbo is spooling up. I don't know how accurate it is, but FE was A LOT better. Lately, with the AC running full blast, I've been getting in the mid-30s. Even if FE isn't better by the time I need to fill the holy tank, wow - my ALH feels like my CJAA, which unfortunately still has a craptastic tune on it.
I did log 011 and 025, and just emailed it to you, actually. I still need to see how it looks in vcscope. I think there was some overboost at times, though I was looking straight ahead more than looking at my ToughBook. Even if there's some overboost, the car was very responsive. Comparing this tune and coding to Malone is like comparing an ATV with a golf cart.lol, i was wondering when you were going to try the different versions hidden on there...between variations in cars, sometimes one runs better than another
Finally got to this today (had to "unborrow" my spring compressors first).Better half complained her wagon was making sproing noises when parking, so naturally I ordered strut bearings.
Went to install them today. Swapped out the top nut on the driver's side in preparation for removing the mount, but when I lifted the car the spring perch dropped but not the spring
Turns out the top coil of the spring is AWOL. I don't recall seeing that before, usually it's the bottom coil that breaks, which is obvious because the ride height drops. Missing top coil didn't affect ride height at all, but it's going to be a PITA to remove that strut, maybe I'll cut the spring with an angle grinder![]()
