I may swap the backs, too. But not sure how hard that is.
Nice score with the Recaro seats!! Even the driver's seat thigh bolster looks decent, but good idea swapping them.
Rear seat bottoms swaps are measured in seconds, not minutes (it's that easy) of course; the backs are a little more involved, but not by much.

No one ever sits in the back, really.

I meant the backrests on the front seats. To keep controls on the correct (outside) side, it's a lot of work.

So I just swapped the bottom cushions side to side, and discovered the bracket for the fore/aft adjuster lever is broke. Seller refunded me $50 for that, which is ok.

I might grind the bracket off my old front seat and weld that to the recaro. But then I can't sell my old set, really. I'll figure it out in the summer when I have more time to dick around with it.

installed the seats when I got home. Very comfy

The wagon runs!! First time fired up in months, thanks to the postman dropping my elbow this morning !
It means i didnt screw anything up installing the 1856v nd pd150.
Thats incredible, but also i was unsure what the cpu would do without the tune to delete my 'smart' vnt actuator! I took it for a rip today (minus the back window) and it felt awesome to have boost again. Solved my injector 1 misfire issue as well! It purs instead of bouncing around while idling.
Im stoked to have it running again and kinda wish i never started down the Rust-eration path.
I stopped by the wreckers today on my drive and found a mint gasser 2.0 wagon that im thinking ill buy for the body parts... rust free, too bad its not an alh manual

Are you referring to the post number or how close to your member number ???
I didn't know there was that many users over the years. 😀
Neither, the number of pages in this thread, 420. :D

But now I'm curious, where are you seeing a member number?

Just finished my morning commute in the Recaros for the first time. Fan-freaking-tastic. The "normal" VW sport seats are a step up from the base ones, but the GLi seats are lightyears ahead of them both.

"I smoked , but I never inhaled"
~ Bill Clinton :ROFLMAO:
Speaking of smoking, I noticed after my first test drive with the untuned PD 150 and 1856... that the engine bay was like really really hot... this got me thinking maybe my rerouting of the coolant lines might not be working super efficiently or something.
I did step on it a couple of times because I was excited to have boost pressure... Anyone got any ideas?.. other than taking it easy until its tuned for that bigger turbo.

After my VCDS, I didn't get a no boost code! But I did get some others...
00300 - Transmission Fluid Temp. Sensor (G93)
27-10 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent
It's in tandem with brake light switch and triptonic switch.
I replaced the brake light switch already, so I'm hoping that clearing that code will work.
But maybe its a solenoid or fuse or something.

Ideas?

Probably the 420 factor

Intake manifold I'm guessing?
Yeah It was @Nuje that recommended that. Super glad I did that, the gunk in the old one and the old egr was wild... air barely squeezing through.
I wish I had done a before and after video. I haven't got a tune yet, but the difference already with a clean 150 intake manifold, and new turbo is incredible.
I had to do some chop work to get hoses to fit my clip pancake pipe etc...
And the whole thing took pretty much the entire winter, but this is my first time doing this an I'm stoked.
Couldn't have done it without the help of this thread and extensive deep dives on youtube.

I just watched a video about trans fluid change, I think I'll tackle that next, cause the heat was major, and I got concerned about that.

I stopped by FCP Euro to pick up my parts for the rear main seal change. Love stopping in and seeing what they got on the lifts in the shop. Some cool race vehicles in their this week. Brought it home, got it in the garage on the ramps, and started tearing apart everything on the trans. Hoping to get the trans out tonight.

Got the transmission, clutch, and fly wheel off. Found out the shop I paid to replace the RMS and clutch put rtv around the entire back side of the seal housing. Looks like its leaking because of it which is somehow more annoying then the seal leaking. So far I am redoing about 90% of the work I paid them to do....

They have gotten a couple big orders from me lately with parts for the new car...

A friend's dad recently "totalled" an 03 ALH, he tried to miss a Bambi and instead hit the rhubarb. Not a lot of damage but passenger curtain airbags deployed so it was written off. He bought it back but doesn't really want another undrivable car on his yard, so it may be mine for $600. 450k kms, manual trans and it's in kinda rough shape but starts and runs pretty good so, while not a steal of a deal, I think it's decent. I think it even could be driven but it has a bent tie rod. But I'd still love to have it even if only for a spare engine and trans, so I'm not complaining.
Tie rods are super easy. That's a pretty good deal, I'd say, though with three running ALHs, I don't really need any more cars myself (I only really use two of them on a regular basis, rotating throughout the week). Knock on wood, I hit a deer about two months ago - it bent my front license plate and that was it, despite hitting it around 35-45mph. The deer also wasn't totally mangled up, so I was able to load it in the car (with Elsa salivating over it). After I got it home and put some portions of it in the freezer, Maximilian (my other shepherd) babysat that deer all night long, even with temperatures dropping down to 21 degrees. Took him three days to finish the torso and he didn't need kibble for a whole week!

If you can find the VW silicon VW makes that is white, use it. I call that s**t magic for all the times it sealed up stuff that was pissing oil. Quite literally had oil actively running across the sealing surface and that stuff still sealed it up. Also sets up kinda rubbery, not spongy silicon like most silicon I have used.

That said I don't know about ALH valve cover gaskets.
I'll have to double check when I get a chance and see if it's still seeping oil around #4 sometime during the week. I just remember @alphaseinor always saying that ALL ALH valve covers leaked, even when new. Doesn't really surprise me, though, but I think pretty much every diesel valve cover period leaks.

And what I did recently to the Golf... took it to/from Mexico on Thursday to see my dentist again. The customs officer asked me what kind of fuel economy I got out of my Golf and how much it costs to fill up the tank, the Border Patrol agent at the checkpoint on US-90 asked if my license plate meant I love diesel (which I obviously do), and I got pulled over in Hondo (where they're always getting people for speeding). Why? Too much soot on my license plate and one of my plate bulbs was out (crappy Chinese LEDs). And he also asked me what kind of fuel economy I got out of the car and how much it cost me to fill up a tank. Who would've thought law enforcement thought so highly of the ALH?

They were probably planning on stealing it and selling you to human traffickers. Changed their minds when they saw how big you are.

I better keep mine then. Mexico perks
