Set out to swap injection pumps on my car this evening but I realized I don't have a long reach cam lock and I really don't want to pull my valve cover again as it's sealed up nicely right now... 😝

What did I do? Bought (another) one.
2002 base model - crank windows and mirrors, albeit with A/C - with a blown motor.
I'd worked on this car before; owner was driving up a logging road, hit a rock (no skid plate, despite my admonitions), and drove it as far it'd go, hoping for the best (ended up with the worst.

So - just need to decide whether to find a motor for it, or part it out..... 🤔

Oh man from the island I am assuming it is reasonably rust free? Fix it up, these coastal ALHs are amaƶing. Poor car though, I only have the plastic belly pan, but a 1½" lift, I drive quite cautiously on logging roads. Reminds me of a time I had a buddy do the same (minus running dry:() in a gnarly whoop on a logging road 50̷0̷m from camp. (this was a 1.8T, mind you) Immediately knew what happened and shut it off. We were to be at that camp for about 2 weeks, so he ordered a pan, gasket and oil, and on the day off with a bunch of buddies who he supplied tailgate burgers to, got it rolling. It was an awesome case of backlands dusty dirtroad repairs, and it kept on going with no issues. At one point while it was still sitting, a CO showed up and said "does anyone know where 'insert full name here' is?" We all thought it was for the dumped oil haha but it was just trying to figure out why it was parked there.

Pity we aren't closer to each other, I'd trade you an ALH for a wagon hatch ;)
Would do that deal in a heartbeat! :D

There are some go-fast bits on it, too, but I'm sure the VNT17 turbo is cooked, but I'm figuring the clutch injectors are fine. "Stage 4" tuned....but that would need to get rectified regardless.

And yes - body is in great shape. Just doing a quick once-over and there's no corrosion popping up anywhere. Missing a side mirror, though - which is easy enough to fix).

Heh, believe me, I've told my wife be glad we don't have endless funds. The variety of oddball cars we would own, all in some sort if dissarry would be astounding.
I'm glad the Condo rules where I live only allow 2 cars.
I can't imagine how many cars I would have.
A few years I asked about getting a surplus military surplus half track.
The board nixed it w/o thought.

Mother Necessity, or maybe just laziness, has struck again.
After shopping around and deciding I didn't want to pay stupid shipping for a long reach lock and wait a week for it to show up, I built one instead. I thought it would be kinda tricky to figure out but it wasn't too bad.
Yes, a 3/8" bar is likely excessive, and yes, my welds have crap penetration but hey, it'll hold! And it doesn't even look too ugly. Pretty pleased with how precisely I drilled the holes too, with a cordless drill. 😄

Yeah that's the IDParts one, the Metalnerd ones are much more spendy.

I bought this one too.
I think I purchased it when I yanked and swapped my 10mm pump with the 11 so I didn't have to pull the cover. But I've used it with the cover off as well

Anybody have any tips on how to not get crud in the injectors when removing the hard lines?

Hi guys quick question, should I put thread locker on the crankshaft bolts? As far as the clutch goes, what do you guys put on the pivot ball and the release bearing slider assembly?

What have I done, is I painted my clutch release arm because it wasn't shiny enough. Cleaning the transmission for clutch installation and all the seals that go with it
