I installed the new tune that burpod wrote for me. all I can say is I wish the hell he would have been around 10 years ago. I didn’t flog it to death but for a bit of wide-open throttle in the middle absolutely zero haze I am impressed.
😃. When I get my "Burpod tuning" thread up and running here in a day or two be sure to make a post about what your final thoughts are once your ready and have some feedback.

Chasing what seems to be a small boost leak, replaced the upper pipe and all connections earlier this week. Yesterday when I was at work the 1.8t pancake pipe showed up. Needless to say you can't use it without a some serious modifications or the earlier style hose without the stupid oring connection. Don't have time today to mess with it. I have a plan to stop by my uncles shop and make up an adapter then cut off the stupid metal thing on the end of the hose, then weld the adapter to the 1.8t pipe. Then a normal clamp connection can be made. Thats for later though.

Removed the rusted to hell hitch off Wilbur (not sure what to do with the holes left...)
Started cleaning out some rust off the left front fender ... guess I'll get a replacement and clean up the remainder. Wilbur is silver and has a lot of paint issues going on... contemplating getting it repainted or maybe wrapped in platinum grey :)

Started moving money around for a full suspension refresh on Orville... it's about time. Need some body work done too but can't find a decent place around here who will do the minor work. seems like the only places I've called don't want to do it if it's not insurance related. I'm sure I'll find someone but it's been difficult.

Been thinking about getting a third tdi. haha.. what is wrong with me.

Decided to adjust my parking brake since my annual inspection is on for 18 May. Discovered that neither rear caliper really wants to let the parking brake arm return after releasing the handle, even with the helper springs from the B5 added.

I’ll either have to free them up somehow or just get new calipers.

Remove the arms and rubber boots, scrape out the aluminum oxide and other crusties with a dental pick, spray brake cleaner. Then put the arms on loosely and work them until they return on their own, or ar least easily enough that the return springs can do their job. Grease and reassemble.

I have done this on my sedan every 2 years or so for a while now and have managed to avoid replacing calipers so far.

Sorry I forgot to delete that part before I posted. I figured I might as well search it up myself rather than cause more useless clutter of questionable that have already been answered lol

Kept pecking away at the wagon. Got the rear calipers, hard lines and demon hoses installed. Had an unexpected visit from PakProtector, it was nice to have company in the shop. Then I called my neighbor over and he worked the magic on the short demon hoses (short little ones, IYKYK). PakProtector left slightly heavier in bootlegger fashion and I was done for the day. I hope to bleed them in the next few days.

The weather was dry and warm enough today, so I did some cleaning of PO filth. Flipped the rear seats up and poured a 1/2 gallon or so of all purpose cleaner mixed in water into the carpet under there, agitated thoroughly with a brush, and sucked it out with the shop vac. I can't identify what was spilled, but it was probably food, likely liquid -- maybe soup? Chili? -- and left untouched for a good long time. It smelled funky, and it had to go. Much better now. At some point I'll drag the carpet cleaner out there and do all the carpets, but for the near term I had to get the stinky food out.

Also pulled the top seals off above the doors and cleaned out a lifetime of fir needles and dirt. No rust in there fortunately.

Put my Duluth Trading seat apron on the driver seat, and the dog hammock in the back. Despite the PO indifference, the seats are in decent condition. I may spring for a matched pair of seat covers for the front, but for now the apron keeps my shop grunge at bay.

I unloaded all the stuff I pulled out of the Volvo and sorted through it. I seem to be a ratchet strap hoarder. Also had camping stuff that was permanently stored under the floor -- Volvo XC wagons have a huge bunch of space under the rear floor, and I'm bad about "being prepared." I even had a Pelican case with all my off-roading recovery gear in the XC...

I pared the load down to a bin with a few straps, a collapsible snow shovel, a gallon of water, duct tape, gloves. Jumper cables under the floor. The apocalypse will have to wait.

Mk.4's and the Cummins
All our TDI's are tagged as warbirds. The Jug, Warhawk, Lightning...single Mazda is Mustang. TDI-getter has always been Lurch. That instantaneous Cummins clatter on application of the key seems to translate well to, 'you rang....'. He's a bit more gravelly than Ted Cassidy...LOL

Got the drivers door put back together after cleaning a bunch of gunk out of the door latch switch mechanism, looked like the gunk was keeping the Microswitch from engaging (possibly accumulated from spraying lube into the latch)

The button looked good and sounded good but the "door ajar" light doesn't turn on for the drivers door or the passenger door or the left rear door, but does illuminate when the right rear door is open and the hatch.

Vcds auto-scan has no codes stored and when checking under 46 measuring blocks doesn't recognize when those three doors are open, tomorrow I'll probably take the wrap off the wire loom that goes through the door to look for anything busted.
Anyone have any other ideas?
The alarm used to work normally until it started going off in the middle of the night and then the key fobs stopped working
I've been troubleshooting this problem for 3 years. I do not have issues with the door-ajar lights but I do have issues with the key fob and alarm. I have landed at the issue being the door lock actuator in the driver-side door and OR the door lock actuator bracket that kept it from moving around inside the door (attached the actuator to the metal part of the door to keep it stable) has broken off. I say and OR because if I take the inner door panel off and pull the actuator in towards the car I can get the power locks to work again using the key cylinder in the driver's door. This has been a real pain in my ass. I have learned to live with it. I just unlock my car with my key. It does hurt my soul a little that it doesn't function properly. It's a work in progress. Have to do the clutch and blend doors before I get that working. Priorities.

Cleaned out the front Rot Pockets and de-foamed the fenders of the '02 2DR... :)
I like that description of the space behind the wheel well liners. Found it particularly amusing since just this weekend I happened to watch the episode of "The Food that Built America" on History that covered the invention of the Hot Pocket....

Yesterday I changed the oil, replacing the break in oil with some 5w40 Liquimoly oil that meets the VW diesel spec (p/n 2022 5l or 20006 1l for the curious)(Forgive me O Father for I have mentioned engine oil on the internet). Also finally flushed the coolant to replace the "mostly water with a trace or NAPA green" with proper VW coolant. The last fluid task is a transmission oil change, I'll probably not do that until June. I have a couple liters of good GL4 on the shelf. I also need to finish replacing the vacuum hoses around the engine. I did the hose from the valve to the turbo actuator, and the injector bleed hoses, but the rest are ugly. I have the hose, I just lack the motivation. Or more accurately, the sun is out and I'd rather be on the bike.

I had not checked in a while, but it looks like the air bubbles have cleared in the fuel supply. It was probably just air in the lines and filter from standing open for a couple months. The fuel lines under the hood need to be replaced, though. The rubber lines are very dry and cracked, and the clear line is harder than I would like. As the MOT inspection in England would say, they have perished.

Climbed underneath to attempt removing the parking brake arms to clean out & lube the shafts. Noticed that the left side arm moves freely (not surprising since it’s been usually the left one that sticks). But even with it turned to the “on” position, the rear wheel spun freely. Decided that I’ll just be putting new calipers on it.

So I then washed it, since it’s pollen season. Noticed that someone decided to bang into the left corner of my rear bumper. License plate screw marks from the offending car and some good scrapes. Dammit.

I'm sure many of us can relate lol.
Lotus Turbo Esprit - it's what I wanted in high school. Still would love one.

New serpentine belt, Gates replaced the Continental that was in there. The Continental still looked pretty good - not sure when the previous owner changed it but I've had the car for 2.5 years since now so I didn't feel that bad replacing it.

New battery for the Beetle. Sam's Club was running a $20 off sale last weekend so I picked up a "Duracell H6" flooded battery. Interestingly the AGM Duracell from Sam's club felt heavier than the flooded battery. Even the older Deka that came out of the Beetle was a bit heavier. Didn't weigh them, just going to feel. 3 year non-prorated warranty on the flooded so that's what I went with.

Also, since the starter isn't that much more work than the battery on the beetle, I installed a Valeo starter to replace the original Bosch. The Beetle was cranking slow during the So. Cal winter (not very cold), and the Valeo starters came back in stock, so why not get one.

HOLY SMOKES it cranks so quick now! I've read folks saying the Valeo cranks faster, but OMG! Can't wait to hear it start up tomorrow morning.

BTW, the negative lead from the battery, mid-span, gets bolted to the body under the battery tray. That lug is coming apart - the stranded wire is getting free from that crimp terminal - not sure why. So my negative terminal to body connection isn't so great. How are folks fixing this problem? I'm tempted to run a separate ground wire, with a side tab coming off the negative clamp, like what's done on the positive side to the fuses on top of the battery, but then run that to the same ground point under the battery tray.

Decided to tackle the parking brake lever on the right before inspection. I didn't want to fail for no park brake, and I also didn't want it to be stuck on afterward.

Removed the wheel and caliper. Noticed that the piston boot is torn a bit. Guess I'll be ordering new calipers anyway. Pulled the lever arm off and got a pick inside the little boot. Scraped around then sprayed a bunch of kroil in there. Got it working pretty well--well enough that the B5 helper spring brings it right back.

Since the piston boot is torn, the piston had a little corrosion and was hard to turn back in with the tool, so I sprayed that all down with kroil as well (piston ratcheted out as I was testing the lever). That got it easier to turn in.

I'm going to leave the parking brakes alone till after NYSI on Thursday. I'm not in the habit of using them anyway.

Went through my garage and organized my parts and tools for the Jettas. Found some old timing belt replacement parts like the rollers and water pump from a while back. I'm not sure what I was doing with them. Also decided to take off and toss all the old damaged plastic underbody/wheel well molding while it's garaged. I was going to visit a few junk yards for some parts and maybe they'll have some decent stuff but otherwise I think imparts has the replacements.

I also found this other part and I don't know if this came with the compressor as some sort of adapter or what, but I have no idea if this even goes to the Jettas. Anyone have an idea what this is? Tried to read and search the number on the molding but got nothing.
