Doinked it 🤬

(Note to self: When parking and having the thought (that asshat beside me made it so my rear end is pretty close to that pillar, don't think "I gotta remember that when I'm leaving (most likely in a hurry)"; instead....FIND A DIFFERENT PARKING SPACE!)

To add insult to stupidity, I parked in the daily - not "hourly" lot that's relatively close (i.e., not requiring a shuttle) to the terminal because I knew I had a tight timeline to get to the ferry home, thinking, "Ok - instead of $25/day, maybe it's $40....$50/day, tops."
Nope: $186 for two days and two hours.
(And ended up missing the ferry regardless - got there in time, but it was full. 🤦‍♂️)

Ballpark estimate from the Bumper Doctor here: $1000 (he's generally pretty good about the estimates, and will clean up a couple other scuffs on the rear bumper cover while he has it off)

Haha - no, that's just the fisheye-distortion of the wide-angle lens on the phone camera. It was more of a "rub" than a "hit".

New rear brakes were installed today on the rear of my Golf. Last year we did the fronts. Both times I used Fremax rotors with Halten G-Ramic pads from idparts.com Car now has 202,000 miles on the clock. Running really well and all maintenance is up to date.

Had my RF door's KESSY handle stop responding to "lock" (tapping the thumb stop) a few weeks ago, then while on 10-day trip (of course), the whole KESSY system decided to quit.
VCDS pointed to the RF door "antenna open circuit" or something like that.

While lamenting that I was on the road, away from home and tools and friendly parts department, it struck me that a couple years back, I'd decided to install KESSY **REAR** door handles - got them in, ran the wires, but then when I got to the module, it was a completely different connector that would've required re-pinning all the wires, inserting into new connector, connecting to the module and then hoping that VW's servers would "bless" my new setup (and while working on that....the car's out of service).
So, that project / retrofit was abandoned (for the time being anyway).

But that also meant that I had a spare set of already-painted KESSY door handles sitting in the rear doors as a de facto ride-along parts bin.
And one of the few tools I did have a long was a hooked pick so I could pull the release lock for the thumb stop. And thus, in less than 20min. of work time, had the old / bad one out (and into the rear door); and the new/good one in the front door, and fully functional KESSY once again. :D
